Seismisches Armenien. Gefahr unter meinen Füßen – Seismisches Armenien. Die Gefahr liegt unter meinen Füßen

  1. Honestly, above all else, this is my biggest fear about Armenia.

The people in the video are saying Spitak earthquake was 10 point level, based on that a potential 9 and 10 points earthquake is guaranteed again in the future, it’s a matter of when. Our buildings are built to stand 8 points of quakes the past 35 years (insert doubt here), whereas the soviet ones, are not to par at all, they’re way past their use case (25-50 years).

Mikhael, an academic, is saying there’s a potential of 80% building collapse in Yerevan, with upwards of 300,000 deaths.

Mikhael also said the government standards written on paper, are not being implemented in new constructions.

Good news is that Mikhael is saying it’s possible to fit older buildings with seismic idolators, this requires to lift the building and install these idolators, which in his calculation, costs 30$ per square meter of the building. Bad news, citizens don’t turn attention to it, the government can’t pay for all of those, and all governments are ignoring the issue, leaving it on the next one to solve it.

Others are saying the buildings erode over time, they lose 1 point of seismic protection every 30 years.

  2. This is also my biggest fear for Armenia, honestly more than Azerbaijan. And the saddest part about it is that addressing a problem like this requires people to care, but too many people in Armenia have a „nothing will ever happen“ mentality. And that’s not something you fix overnight…

  3. This and metsamor accident during earthquake is my biggest concern about Armenia
