Am 1579. Tag der groß angelegten Invasion ist die Sonne über Kiew untergegangen. Vor zwei Jahren kamen bei einem russischen Double-Tap-Angriff in Odessa 21 Menschen ums Leben, darunter auch Rettungskräfte. Es zwang die Ukraine, ihre Rettungsaktionsverfahren zu überprüfen.

“…Rescuer Yevhen Vlasenko came under fire on March 15th, 2024. That day he was serving as the watch commander.

“I was injured, but as it later turned out, compared to the others my injury was the least severe. I fell to the ground, covered my ears with my hands, and opened my mouth to avoid a concussion. Then I got up and saw a very terrible scene, all my teammates were lying there, asking for help,” the rescuer recalls.

That day his colleagues suffered a number of injuries. One of them, Denys Kolesnikov, was killed.

“Several bodies were lying in a pile”

Artem Avhustinovych, another rescuer from the State Emergency Service in Odesa region, was also injured in the attack. He suffered burns to his face and upper respiratory tract, as well as shrapnel wounds to his shoulder, back, leg, and foot.

“I had burns to my face and upper respiratory tract, and shrapnel wounds to my shoulder, back, leg and foot. There were several bodies lying in a pile, one on top of another. It was a horrifying scene. That’s what I remember — there were so many victims,” the rescuer said.

The men who were killed were always ready to help whenever needed, he added. According to him, they knew how to support one another and lend a friendly shoulder.

“They were the kind of guys who would always help, who would never stand aside if there was a problem and you needed their help. They were fun too, they could joke around and tease each other,” Artem Avhustinovych added…”
