With the baby being only 18 days old, and this being such a shocking act, I would wonder if this was a case of postnatal psychosis. It can come on terrifyingly quickly, even in women with no history of mental illness. There was a case in Bristol about ten years ago where the mother and her baby were found dead in the Avon Gorge.
