I’m not saying I’m surprised, a lot of local businesses in my rural community are “hiring” but turn away anyone who applies so they can petition for cheaper wage workers imported to not question anything.
I feel bad for the kids who’ve started looking for work but can’t find anything, but ultimately every party in Canada is subservient to the business class.
Hopefully there’s a push for UBI because something’s going to collapse if nobody can find work and businesses benefit from not hiring local.
I’ve just said this elsewhere re the Quebec extensions but I’ll repeat myself here.
A quick return to form for the LPC – I want to like Carney but I just can’t get behind the party apparatus.
Unemployment is rising and we do this, our country is a mess.
Either raise wages/improve working conditions or your business doesn’t deserve to be in business. I’m tired of this boss.
People wonder why Spain has better integration for immigrants despite typical Euro anti immigration sentiment and the main reason is they refuse this sort of low wage temporary migrant programs…in fact they made it harder tor hire on temporary contracts as well
Article is paywalled, but if we are strictly talking for rural farming and related roles then I’m not necessarily against this. And I’m saying that as someone who is incredibly critical of the mass immigration issue in Canada and the destruction it’s caused to our housing, healthcare, and youth employment.
I grew up in a very rural farming community and still have many childhood friends there who’ve taken over their family farms. It’s virtually impossible to get non-TFW’s to move out to the boonies and do the backbreaking work that’s required. These were the type of roles the TFW program was implemented for and should ramp up and down as needed. Not so that mega corporation employers can keep wages suppressed.
Damn and here I thought the liberals were actually doing a good job.
If the conservatives were half competent they would capitalize on this, how we’re literally hiring forigners instead of hiring Canadian teens… Unacceptable.
This is one of the most backwards things we have in Canada. Young people can’t find work. Instead of letting the market balance itself you flood it with cheap labor and people willing to accept terrible labor conditions.
I hate the liberals… I wish our conservatives were actually competent.
