Head of the Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), Nechirvan Barzani, said Tuesday that the KRG „will in no way be part“ of the ongoing Iran conflict.

Speaking during a high-level military and security meeting attended by senior officials, Barzani said the KRG territory will not „be allowed to become a source of threat to Iran or other neighbouring countries,” stressing that preserving peace is a „top priority.”

A statement issued following the meeting said participants discussed the latest security developments in the region, the consequences of the Iran war, and its dangerous impacts on the KRG.

Relevant: A recent interview of the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan. Worth a watch because this is the most honest opinion of the war I’ve seen on record from any Middle Eastern leader..

    – He is visibly upset about the situation and points out that this is at its core an Israeli-led war, and that there is a real risk of Iran falling into permanent chaos, like Syria and Libya, if the regime actually falls.

    – He calls out the Israelis as the driving force behind the war, pointing out that they would *like* chaos because then the Iranians would be too busy fighting each other to be a threat to them. But such chaos would not be good for Iran or for other countries in the region.

    – He also questions the American treatment of the Kurds as ‚guns for hire‘ in its own conflicts in the Middle East when they have their own goals as a people, including their own sovereign nation, that America doesn’t care about.

    – Finally he confirms that he is in active contact with the Iranian regime and has assured them that this is „not our war“.

And now we know why Trump U-turned on his plans for the Kurds and suddenly claimed that [he didn’t want them getting involved after all](https://www.timesofisrael.com/after-initially-voicing-support-trump-says-he-doesnt-want-kurds-to-enter-iran-war/). They didn’t say no, he did!

Not a good day for the MAGA crowd; they don’t like when others withhold their consent to Trump.

So for anyone surprised by this, understand that unlike Turkey and Iraq, Iran has always treated its Kurdish minority with respect. That is why you are seeing this.

Same for other Iranian minorities like Balachs, Arabs, Armenians, Azeris, etc.

Iran is a heterogeneous country and generally the people have always gotten along quite well. Another thing it has in common with the U.S.
