    Better late than never.

It’s a shame that we had to get to this stage to realise we need it.

There has been a lack of forsight in our planning these last decades.

I’m sure this is like the third time I’ve seen a similar announcement in the past three years.

Just get on with it, start building. Fuck what the public think, just do it.

  3. >However, top environmental planning lawyer Alexa Culver of RSK Wilding said: “No ecologists or environmental specialists were invited to shape these proposals into anything that resembles a ‘win’ for nature.

For good reason.  I hope they told you in no uncertain terms to fuck off.

I guess we have to say better late than never here.
We really need to build our own power infrastructure.

  5. Much as I agree with nuclear even if Miliband reduced regulations a large nuke will still take a long time to build. We could install a lot of renewables+batteries in that time and for less money. And I wonder if we are putting too much faith into SMRs? I don’t pretend to understand the engineering challenges but [this video says that there are issues](https://youtu.be/6c_H69pj26s).

The biggest disaster of Chernobyl might be how far back it put the international nuclear power movement. Imagine where we’d be today without their bullshit soviet fuel rods.

  7. Remember when the Tory-Libral coalition said that there was no point in building nuclear because it wouldn’t come online until 2021?

It’s nice to have some forward thinking for a change.

Milliband needs to jump off his permomative green agenda.
Just open up the North Sea again. Sure will make no difference now but 10 years and the next middle eastern instability it would be highly helpful.
We don’t just need power. We need oil/gas and their by-products for a whole load of things.

Tbh I’d go for some quick coal power stations and importing a coal stockpile too if we’re talking power.
Take chinas lead. Let cheap energy allow you to grow a good manufacturing base whilst moving to a greener future at a faster rate due to better growth economics.

With or without £700 million in fish protection per plant?

There are reasons why we can’t build anything any more and most of those reasons are stupidly rigid regulations

This government throwing themselves fully behind nuclear and renewables is one of the best things a government done in decades.

If you look at some of the metrics they’re legit insane, after Starmer came to power renewable project approvals *tripled* when compared quarter to quarter.

Nuclear power isn’t ideal, but I can’t see a viable alternative if we want energy security.
Renewables are good, but without massive investment in battery storage they can’t provide continous power.

  12. Just don’t fucking rush it. Cut the tape slowing down getting to done but maintain very high quality standards.

  13. We are literally in another oil crisis right now. The need for this could not be any clearer.

Hopefully, the government will dismiss the usual naysayers.

Don’t worry everyone, we’ll make sure to vote them out next election so Farage can scrap it all and send the funds to his mates.
