TIL I learned that estonians call us swedes rootsi because a thousand years ago we were vikings rowing around.

  2. I love Soome, Rootsi and Poola
In finnish they are Suomi, Ruotsi and Puola. That is so close, but sounds funny.

Assuming -maa is ‚land‘? I also thought Austria might have looked different considering Germany is Saksamaaphone

I think finland should change the official name of estonia to eesti because you are one of the few that use a name for us that is derived from the finnish name not swedish and for some weird reason we are one of the few that have a name for you that has nothing to do with the original estonian name lol. But many people do already use eesti even though it’s not official

I’m Finnish and these are some great names. I especially like Iirimaa, in Finnish it’s Irlanti and I think you’ve won us there

  8. Saksamaa is a spelling of Saxons, Sachsen, right?

When did this Name originate? Was that during the baltic crusades?

Wow this must be like among few non slavic countries (like hungary or turkey) to use Horv-suffix instead of standard „croatia“ for croatia. Even more suprising since there was no historical contact with estonia while turkey and hungary were neighbours with croatia

  10. As a finn id like to formally thank all estonians for making such a hilarious language 😂 fym venemaa that literally means boat land in finnish 😭
