    (Submission Statement)

Prime Minister Mark Carney told MPs in the House of Commons Tuesday that Canada is not involved in the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and “will never participate in it.”

“Canada’s stance is clear. Canada supports the necessity to prevent Iran’s nuclear program and the export of terrorism,” Carney said in French.

“Canada is not participating in the United States and Israeli offensive and will never participate in it.”

Blanchet later asked Carney whether he’s met with European leaders and whether they had come to a common position on Iran.

Carney listed off the G7 leaders he’s spoken with — including U.S. President Donald Trump — and said they will find a common stance on de-escalation in Iran.

Supports the necessity to prevent Iran’s nuclear program, but doesn’t have the stones to participate. Sounds about right.

Mark Carney’s been more vocal in standing up to Trump than any other Western leader, so Canadian Liberals were more than a little upset when he took a mealy-mouthed middle ground on the Iran strikes, offered the use of Canadian bases and did not rule out getting involved even after acknowledging that the strikes violated international law.

Some Liberals say this is because of his own political instincts, which are closer to the moderate wing of the Canadian Conservative party than the Liberals as a whole.

What is interesting to me is that Trump hasn’t responded at all to the Canadian government’s statements even though he threatened Spain with a trade embargo and personally attacked Keir Starmer and the ’special relationship‘ with Britain for their own refusals. As far as I can see he hasn’t attacked Macron either, who has also questioned the legality of the war.

Is this an example of him respecting countries who consistently stand up to him more than the ones who U-turned after being pliant until now?

They recognize the IRGC are terrorists. They recognize the need to take action. They just won’t do it.

Why? Because they are hypocrites who can afford not to. They know others will do the dirty work for humanity. And they will be able to just complain and pretend to be morally superior, complaining about all sides without investing anything into this.

At least, unlike some worse hypocrites in Europe, they stay out of the way instead of actively helping the IRGC terrorists.

  5. Outstanding. Literally.

It’s bewildering how rare it is to find a statesman able or willing to take a clear, non-hedged stand.

So refreshing to see a Canadian premier stand up and say and do the right things after a long time (Trudeau, I am looking at you)
