This is a decent article, but some glaring mistakes bring the entire article’s accuracy into questions Tomahawk missiles and cruise missiles are NOT used to counter drones. This is a factually incorrect statement and is repeated throughout the article.
>with Tomahawk missiles and $1.5 million air-launched cruise missiles fired at cheap projectiles and drones.
Change the sentence to read Tomahawk missiles are used to target drone launch sites and it makes more sense, but the entire article makes it sound like expensive Tomahawks are used to counter individual drones. I’m sure the author meant Patriot missiles and a good editor who knows what they are talking about would have caught this. This is a surprising mistake from an otherwise good magazine.
There is a story that new NASA recruites watch Armageddon and list all the things that wrong with it (physics, astronomy, technology, etc).
This article is serious contender for similar use one day when this war will be analyzed in military academies.
I especially enjoyed this part
>Operation Rough Rider against the Houthis cost almost a billion dollars, **with Tomahawk missiles and $1.5 million air-launched cruise missiles fired at cheap projectiles and drones**
>
and this
>
>The Pentagon has reportedly fired some 400 Tomahawk missiles to intercept Iranian drones and projectiles
In general, Shahed-136 seems to be copy of Israeli Harpy drone that been produced from 90s and became known for it’s use by Azerbajain. Harpy on it turn based on Dornier DAR project from 80s that failed and Israel bought it design documentation
It seems like a situation where ‚one man’s meat is another man’s poison.‘ While for Iran, the use of drones is a means of survival, for America it could be a blow to its reputation as the use of this technology may lead to an increase in civilian casualties. This in turn will give Iran a pretext to turn the Arab world against the United States. In this case, it seems more appropriate to continue the search for cheaper ways to combat drones and to utilize Ukrainian experience
