    Well, it is quite obvious. In Belgium we charge 600€ per person. I would say it is cheap anyway, but at least that.

    If the argument is about personal responsibility for risky choices, then why the hell not apply the same logic consistently?

    For instance, you could simply add a dedicated ‚highway to hell‘ tax when people book travel to regions that the government classifies as dangerous. That would simply create a fund specifically for potential evacuations.

    Otherwise, in my humble opinion, we’re selectively applying the ‚you took the risk, you pay‘ principle. By that logic, we’d also need much higher charges for lifestyles that are widely and scientifically known to be risky – smoking, heavy drinking, extreme sports etc. – since those folks also generate greater costs later in the healthcare system.
