  1. Youtube Premium is probably the best subscription you can have if you watch a lot of Youtube. I’m not thrilled about having it though, it feels like Extortion As A Service

Then we could use some kind of ad blocker in our browser to prevent that.

  3. Nowadays, I just watch significantly less YouTube. Even the ‚premium lite‘ plan isn’t worth it to me.

I have enough content available to me that I don’t need another subscription program.

Edit: I also started using YouTube Vanced

  4. On the one hand, servers cost money to run. I get it. Businesses need to cover their operating expenses.

On the other hand, I don’t need to watch anything. At all. Ever.

On the third hand, their algorithm has no idea what to do with me in terms of ads, so the only thing they’ve managed to make me do is get a low-key annoyance and bad feeling about their product that I didn’t want to consume in the first place.

Youtube about to reduce the time I spend watching youtube. I guess it will be good for my health.

The infomercials are the worst! 60 seconds + of trying to sell some garbage! Makes my day when I can skip those 1 second into playing

  7. I’ve already switched over to Firefox. Once that is blocked, I will simply write a script to download what I want locally.

I just leave a video if it drops a one minute ad lol. Nothing on YT is that important to watch.

I just don’t use it anymore and IF I use ytdl and download a good one for offline use and be done with it. Man YT these days is like cancer

I use Smarttube so I get no ads already and built-in sponsorblock to boot. If you have an Android/Google TV, there’s no better way to watch YouTube.

  11. Did anyone even read the damn article before getting mad?

It’s for the TV app only. Your ad blocker extensions are useless.

  12. It’s for YouTube tv btw guys

Edit: sorry, YouTube app on tv, not YouTube tv

  13. „YouTube is hellbent on making sure no one ever uses the TV app ever again.“

that’s why I pay every ridiculous amount per a month to not have to deal with commercials

  15. They play ads between the set up and the punch line of jokes. FFS. It’s awful.

At least TV used to have a natural flow. Now YouTube decides it’s a good idea to play a 9-minute long ad mid-joke that you can skip after 4 seconds. But if you don’t the ad will play for NINE MINUTES.

Hate to state the obvious, but the ads are only un skippable if you watch YouTube. As marketers continue to destroy the Internet, go grab a book.

    *laughs in vietnamese*
Our communist government has banned those capitalistic unskippable ads.

  18. What do they unskippable “30 second” ads. I get served up 1 minute ads, and can only skip either from the last 5 or 15 seconds (it varies) so for me this would be an upgrade from my already ‘enshitified’ experience!

  19. Download Brave browser, people. Blocks everything and automatically skips ads, no extensions needed.

    Thank me later.

  20. Youtube: „Why are so many people bypassing our ads?!“
also Youtube: Unskippable 30S adverts on TV

Seriously, if YT went back to how it was a few years ago, where it was 1 10-15S skippable ad, i’d be fine using it without adblockers, but with the way it is now, YT can go f- off. Ads are just parasites now & I hate it.

  21. Add blockers
If they eliminate those from working I’ll simply use a URL downloader or anything else at the kind and simply download the video I’d like to watch. Watch it and then delete. No comments no likes no interaction and most of all nobody gets money.
If that fails I’m prepared to set up a hard drive for the laptop and throughout my day rather than watching the videos I simply add them to a playlist. Throughout the following day that playlist while I’m busy making another one of stuff I’d watch will be playing and being recorded via screen capture. At the end of the day/the next day I’ll watch that content and fast-forward through the ads like 1 would do with the DVR.
If that fails then I stop watching content altogether.
The ads aren’t the problem the amount of them are and the sooner you realize us the better off will all be if not you build a bigger wall we build a taller ladder. The cycle continues. Frak youtube!

I don’t need YouTube as much as they need me. I’ll stop using it if ads become unskippable. I’m not watching fucking network tv here

  23. The day I can’t avoid the ads is the day I stop using that site entirely. It’s already near unusable with its endless innocuous-bullshit-to-fascism pipelines and useless search/recommendation features.

The worse they get, the sooner viable alternatives will present themselves.

  24. Breadromancer on

My entire browser choice currently revolves around adblocking the shit out of youtube while not having it slow to a fucking crawl just to watch a video.

  25. YouTube is already absolutely unusable without an adblocker.
    Absolute garbage experience.

  26. ProfessorDerp22 on

I only watch like 3 creators at this point. I may as well just sub to their Patreon and skip youtube entirely.

  27. I watched a video without ad blocking the other day and it was horrible. Every 5 minutes there were 2 ads. It was horrible.

  28. I get less and less value from YouTube. I’ve cut the amount I’m on there significantly due to annoying ads. This would be the thing that pushes me over the edge. I don’t need it and won’t miss it. The fact that we are the products anymore already feels bad enough.

  29. YouTube Premium is the only subscription I full stand by honestly. For the amount of YouTube me and my fiancée watch, it’s a no brainer.

Combine that with YouTube music being a great replacement of Spotify, it’s even better.

That being said, I really wish they would stop making their basic platform worse to push Premium on people, because that’s about as shitty of a move as you can do.
