    I know they don’t have census data on the precolonial indigenous settlements but surely they could’ve put down some cute educated guesses instead of just „oh neat, nothing here“?

    it’s kinda amazing how NYC was the center of the country since the early 19th century and still is the biggest city by far.

    I’m curious how enslaved populations are treated in this map. You see an increase in the South after the Civil War but I don’t know if that’s an immigration wave or people who weren’t counted now being counted.
