      I know they don’t have census data on the precolonial indigenous settlements but surely they could’ve put down some cute educated guesses instead of just „oh neat, nothing here“?

      It would be really dope if valleys, rivers, and elevation was mapped onto this so we could see how that matched to it.

      So no one was living in New Orleans until the US took possession in 1803? That seems like it must be wrong.

      it’s kinda amazing how NYC was the center of the country since the early 19th century and still is the biggest city by far.

      I’m curious how enslaved populations are treated in this map. You see an increase in the South after the Civil War but I don’t know if that’s an immigration wave or people who weren’t counted now being counted.
