A disruption in the Strait of Hormuz—the world’s most critical energy chokepoint—in the aftermath of [US-Israeli attacks on Iran](https://www.wired.com/story/us-iran-strike-donald-trump/) would not stay [confined to the Gulf](https://www.wired.com/story/uae-missile-intercept-system-iran/). Analysts say it could trigger a new inflation shock across the global economy, [complicating monetary](https://www.oxfordeconomics.com/resource/how-strait-of-hormuz-disruption-could-harm-the-economy/) policy and putting pressure on the currencies of energy-importing countries.

Iran will be having a high pressure from all over the world , so it will opened soon

  3. You need a Navy to do that.

Edit: I’m seeing some doubt of the capabilities of the firepower in the region. Comparing this to anything other than “unprecedented” is futile.

  4. Shutting the whole strait down, for all traffics, is hard. Shooting potshots here and there to scare the insurers is easy, and they will shut down the ship for you. 90% efficiency for 10% of effort. And unlike the Red sea, this time there is no Cape of Good Hope to go around.

Expecting a lot of bluster here by people that think it’s the 18th century and you need to physically block a seaway with your wooden man-o-war to make it commercially unviable; meanwhile forgetting that last few years‘ Red Sea misadventures were solely done with drones and rockets.

What Happens if Iran Shuts Down the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a new inflation shock across the global economy, complicating monetary policy and putting pressure on the currencies of energy-importing countries?

Wired Magazine will host an Arak-tail party at Mezze on the River across from their offices in Manhattan, with vinyl spun by Palestinian DJ Fatin and a Turkish ice cream show by Pera food truck. Later in the evening will be a keffiyeh fashion show at 1OAK benefitting Gaza Relief and Trump Trivia by Comedy for Peace.

The oil price, shipping and insurance costs go up a bit. That’s it. That won’t be for long as the US military is already there to blow up any boat and missile launch site that expose themselves.

The territory on the Iranian side of the Straight is mountainous and they have had years to prepare this strategy. They’ve known the entire time that they can’t beat the US in direct warfare and the only leverage Iran has is shutting down the Straight and causing economic harm.

The US and it’s allies have had problems intercepting missiles and drones that are flying thousands of miles to other countries, they have almost no hope of intercepting missiles and drones that are fired a couple hundred miles or less. That’s not a lot of time to intercept, with flight time of the interceptors it may not even be physically possible.

Even if Iran is looking for a quick exit they need to at least show the world they are serious about their threats on closing the Straight or else they’ll lose their leverage in future negotiations or conflicts. The Iranian regime has been under sanctions for the past 45 years, I doubt they are going to give up easily.
