I work in healthcare and I see it all the time, every single week multiple times. “Refugees” from all different countries needing months supply of medicine because they’re going on vacation to the places they’re “fleeing” from. Some of these refugees are old and cost tax payers thousands of dollars for only one month’s worth of medicine.

Prior to the Great Financial Crisis, my direct supervisor was a man from El Salvador who was here on refugee status. His wife went back to the El Salvador to visit family and they both had their refugee status revoked as a result. It wasn’t some lengthy ordeal either, it happened within weeks. If I remember correctly they were given 7 days from the time of their notice to leave the country. It wild how our immigration system has changed.
Fake refugees like this make it harder for people that truly are refugees to get to somewhere where they’re safe.

Your country is very generous allowing almost everyone regardless of someone’s history. This is the government that you voted for. You deserve this.
Peak insanity. I know of someone that went on vacation for 9 months as an asylum seeker. They built an apartment there too and collect rent. If you read reavailment cases on canlii, they do sometimes catch and try and get cessation. The problem is there appears to be a large portion of asylum seekers who aren’t genuine. They are doing it based on the advise of consultants and other peoples experiences.
This decision came from a judge, and it seems like they are bending over backwards to favour the client.
How does that even make sense ….
