David Coletto: Mark Carney unterstützt die jüngsten Angriffe auf den Iran. Erwarten Sie nicht, dass die kanadische Öffentlichkeit diese Ansicht teilt

  1. Trump ripped up the JCPOA, Biden failed to implement it. We should not be supporting the US, we should be condemning this unjustifiable war.

The average Canadian doesn’t support war mongers, Trump is a war monger.

The bigger question is, how many of them care enough that it significantly shifts their wider political alignment?

  3. I think the anger over this is heavily over weighted in this sub compared to the Canadian population. I think a lot of us don’t really care and just want to worry about Canada and those living here for once. If we get actively involved that’s an entirely different story, but if we continue just sending words of encouragement most won’t give a shit.

Canadian and Australian governments (and likely more) obviously discussed a common response but I am livid. Our principles have been thrown out by not condemning this breach of international law.

„*Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from threatening international peace and security,*“

Right, so we support the Americans bombing North Korea next? Or whomever else is on the verge of such?

I don’t think it would be much more difficult to signal disapproval for the Iranian government without parroting American and Israeli talking points. The broader Canadian public would appreciate a response that isn’t toeing the American line.

The economy is important but I’m getting a bit sick of everything we do and stand for being filtered through the lens of what is good for fucking business.

  7. If he says „I support this“ but doesn’t send any troops and doesn’t participate in any way…then who cares? If we were participating, the problem is not that the Iranian government is so virtuous, the problem would be that we are spending money and lives and face potential blowback for something that isn’t our problem.

  8. Certainly seems in contrast to his Davos speech. This is basically championing the current rules based world order led by United States hegemony.

    The headline is bit misleading.

Mark Carney said he supported strikes on the nuclear program.

He didn’t say he supported regime change or a broader conflict.

As much as I think trying to force out the regime is likely to have who knows how many unintended consequences, I have absolutely no sympathy for the theocratic regime, and will shed no tears for the Ayatollahs, their enablers and their servants.
