Personally, I was somewhat inclined toward the Halbierungsinitiative originally.

If find independent media very important. I just don’t see how spending millions on e.g. sports or various reality-TV-level content coincides with the mission of the SRF.

However, the SRF acted wisely and decided to reduce costs ahead of the vote. Which makes both camps happy. Independent media is still around, but now focuses more on the core mission while cutting costs on the unimportant stuff. And the government pledges to reduce the fee regardless of outcome.

Hence currently, I don’t feel the need for the Halbierungsinitiative, as the intended goals will be accomplished (to some degree) also without it passing.

Regarding the Individualbesteuerung I am a bit on the fence. Sounds good on paper, but in practice, it will mean a lot more work for tax offices and potentially even more room for mistakes & abuse. E.g. in case of double-deductions. A straightforward removal of the „couple“ tax brackets would also benefit high earners, while reducing the total tax income. Which in practice will probably mean more taxes somewhere else, likely with another hike of a regressive tax, like VAT. Another option would be to just adjust the tax brackets to take the current income statistics into account. This could lead to better tax conditions for unmarried couples without fully nuking the option to be taxed as a couple.
