I am all for helping but at some point we have to stop being so „nice“. We have to use that money to get more doctors to stay here

Good, great, Grand! Canadian tax payer funds should be for Canadians, otherwise it’s called theft.

I fail to see the problem. Canada is running massive deficits and we unfortunately can’t afford to keep funding programs the way we used to. This is an opportunity for community groups to form, step up, and help newcomers integrate into Canada.

The fact that there’s such a large amount of spending on this, or even any spending at all in the first place is wild. If I choose to relocate from NB to Ontario, I’m supposed to cover all costs, yet someone who hasn’t invested a single cent in Canada gets support and resources?

Also lets see some audits on how often these resources are taken fraudulently.

  5. I’ll invite guests to my home, who’ll eventually not leave, when I can’t feed well my hungry children. WOW

Good. I am tired of seeing taxpayer money help everyone but my kids.

Am I reading correctly that Quebec gets zero cuts?

Then they need to stop bussing their immigrants to Toronto

„though refugee services won’t be affected by the cuts.“

The place that is currently being abused the most is being left alone by cuts. Of course it is.

Okay. At least we still have *some* support systems. There are plenty of countries that have **zero**. If you’re an immigrant, then you’re on your own in a lot of places.

Not like our support programs do much good anyway. Places like Brampton exist because immigrants still want to live among their own nationality

The good news just keeps on coming! It’s a bit hilarious how supportive Liberal voters are of conservative policy so long as it’s introduced by a „Liberal“. We really have become bipartisan in the last few years

Why not focus on newcomers who are skilled and don’t require so many expense support programs in the first place? The idea is immigration should be a net benefit ASAP not just act as substitute for young Canadians having families (because they can’t afford to).

Time for our own version of ice to get rid of everyone with expired Visa and no chance for them to claim asylum

We’ve been paying for these services with our tax dollars. Many including myself are sick of paying so much tax and seeing little in return.

Immigrants who are wanting to move to Canada should not be getting any taxpayer services to “help them”. They should be paying out of pocket.

Can the Star read the room and realize none of us give a fuck anymore? These sob stories about special interest groups are such an embarrassing focal point for a major city newspaper.

  15. Yeah I am sorry. Some of these “refugees” on TV look way better fed than any the homeless outside of union station.

if this constitutes a crime against humanity there could be a case for the UN to get involved.

host countries have a duty of care for refugees as outlined by international agreements such as the UNHCR.

many have argued over the years that spending for newcomers is disastrously low. with many food insecure and housing unstable this could throw literally millions of documented and undocumented into poverty. we cannot allow this.
