Der Rechtswissenschaftler Setsu Kobayashi: „Die Verfassung soll nicht die ‚Ideale Japans‘ darlegen.“ Es soll die Staatsgewalt einschränken. Als ich dies im Repräsentantenhaus darlegte, antwortete Takaichi: „Ich vertrete diese Ansicht nicht.“ Die Verfassung ist etwas, das dem Staat Macht verleiht.‘“

Nothing new under the sun. Takaichi and her ilk see in the Peace Constitution a seal of humiliation and in it the sole reason why Japan is not „normal“ state, despite being a peaceful and strong welfare state mostly due to the strength of that document in the first place. They want to imitate Europe, the United States, yet they fail to realize what makes Japan special is right there in their noses.
