I am truly shocked. Weren’t they supposed to be temporary? Who oversaw that?

Is that why they increased the tolls? Because if so, that is absurd. People aren’t driving on the M50 for fun.

      Was that the intended purpose?

I thought it was to gouge more money from the public?

Raising tolls won’t fix congestion if the real issue is that everything is concentrated in Dublin and most people don’t have viable public transport options.

    5. Roads pricing only works if you provide a viable alternative. And you price the toll appropriately.

I was of the understanding that the tolls increase in line with inflation, nothing to do with any attempts to stem congestion?

    7. Ways to reduce traffic on the roads:

      ~~* Encourage remote working~~

      ~~* Build train lines~~

      * Make road users pay more?

    8. Obviously this does. Nothing for traffic. There is a significant number of people, mostly those who can afford to buy or rent in leafy suburbs of dublin who can walk to a luas or dart who think we all fill our cars up and crawl bumper to bumper up and down the m50 for the craic.

They can increase diesel to 10 euro a liter and up tolls to 20 euro a pass, id only have 2 options, become unemployed or pay it.

    9. There was never any claim that the increase would reduce use of the motorway, the annual charges are inflationary. Sounds like a headline written by a freight lobby group to try to reduce the toll charges.

    10. I have to go to 3 tolls for work or else my journey could be 2 hours long, I’m not doing that on purpose you idiots.

    11. Does anyone know if a tram was considered for the M50 when the lane upgrade was planned? It always felt like a missed opportunity to increase load significantly.
