Interessanterweise hat die US-Botschaft in Helsinki in meinem Hin- und Her-E-Mail-Austausch mit ihnen im letzten Jahr den Straßennamen ihrer Adresse, Itäinen Puistotie, in ihrer E-Mail-Signatur auf zwei verschiedene Arten falsch geschrieben

Relinquishing US nationality costs $2.3k?
Didnt they make changes to the cost of relinquishing citizenship? Like it should be around $500
I thought that I read that it was around 10k when I looked into it some 15 years ago, so gave up on the idea.
I can no longer even afford the 2k, but its interesting its lower than I expected, so thanks posting.
Only problem with relinquishing is that I fear people will still consider you an American anyway 😛
(Up until recently, saying I was Canadian acted as a shield… but some provinces there are getting pretty detached from scientific reality, so… 🙁
Perhaps a personal question, but besides not having ties there, was there a specific reason you choose to relinquish citizenship?
I fully understand any “wtf is happening with the US right now.” But my brain is also wondering if there is a financial/tax reason, or some other more administrative reason, that maybe I’m not familiar with.
I don’t understand how Americans are so inept at writing ANY kind of Finnish words.
Every time an American types eg. a Finnish athlete’s name in sports, it’s written wrong. I just can’t understand it. I mean, I get that you can’t PRONOUNCE stuff properly, but write shit? It’s copy paste.
