„Cars manufactured in the United States will now be deemed compliant with Japanese safety standards on the basis that necessary measures have been taken to ensure safety and prevent pollution, the ministry said.“

    What measures?

Oh boy, I’m not sure that’s a good thing. There doesn’t seem to be much data on how many of the cars wouldn’t pass those safety tests.

One more thing is if the cars have left hand steering wheels, then they also won’t sell.

I certainly would be interested in the new Toyota Highlander BEV if it has left hand steering wheel and is of the same build quality as a Japanese made one, as well as cheap enough.

But hey, maybe LDP knows it will be a failure but at least keeps Trump happy.

Most american cars are impractical for japanese roads , they wont seel very well , with motorcycles make sense is just 2 wheels but cars i don’t see going well

  4. American cars are just suited for Japanese Roads or parking.
Couple that with the fact that they don’t manufacture Right hand drive cars there is very little appeal to buy one.

This is unlikely to alter the domestic auto market much, if at all. Kei and normie car buyers are still going to buy domestics, and since most US automakers have almost all but eliminated non-SUVs from their offerings it doesn’t really bring new options to the sedan/coupe/non-truck markets. Adding to the larger displacement engines and higher taxes it is only the more affluent people who are even remotely going to consider buying American (and they already do – Camaros/Corvettes/V8 Cadillacs aren’t unicorns in Tokyo).

  6. I mean sure.. but who’s gonna buy them? The people that buy the cheap and light weight economical car buyers aren’t gonna buy them. Luxury car people will just keep buying the European ones. Unless you don’t have a choice who the hell wants an american car

  7. Where are you going to park half of them? The average American car won’t fit in at least half the streets in the normal neighborhood.

  8. That’s going to go great when everyone who buys one of the new American cars in Japan fails their very first jci when it comes due.

The last thing these small roads need is massive USA Ego-mobiles. I notice them already being an issue in the EU recently.

Well now they can say that they’ve done what they can to allow the market to decide. I love the weird „star“ that will be placed somewhere on the vehicle to brand it as US built.
