In addition to $1.03B given in January 2025
Workers go on strike demanding 1billion is salary increases when?
A billion dollars to deliver Canadian Tire fliers.
Stop
Just throwing away hard earned tax payer dollars, Canada post is not profitable and won’t change their business model enough to make a profit.
Just rip the bandaid off and let them fall, there are other more reliable services out there.
This crown corp will never succeed. Amazon killed it long ago.
Denmark abandoned all postal letter delivery as of last month. And they won’t be the only one.
About time we just rip off the band-aid, and tell the delusional union to stuff it.
„loan“ As if we’ll ever get that back.
„Gonna need more than $1B“
„…how about $1.01B?“
„that can work“
That is so dumb
There exists a break away civilization in Canada.
Public Workers vs Private Workers.
There is no comparison between them.
The Public Sector needs to shrink by 75%.
Canada post reform should include twice a week delivery to massive community boxs..
Give a bunch of obsolete money grubbers 2 billion within 13 months? So smart I’m sure they’ll work super hard to pay it back
Their workers are still going to strike at Christmas again
Can’t wait to get more junk mail.
Plenty of European countries do just fine without a public mail service.
Am I the only one who thinks snail mail still has value as a service, especially to those in remote communities? If there wasn’t Canada post, would private industry be mandated to service those communities? Would they jack up the costs to everyone else?
More money lost to the fiscal void that is Canada Post these days
Why are we furloughing a large part of the public service to save $$$ but also giving Canada Post a billion dollars?
What financial measures were used to ensure they could pay back this loan or the previous one?
If i ask a lender to borrow money to “grow” my business i need to show how i can do it..
Based on all public information Canada post doesn’t have the ability to pay this back.
So why are the tax payers underwriting a failing venture?
This is a “government bailout”
Can’t wait for CBC to give this a glowing review.
Good. Public service funding benefits everyone.
Liberals would rather keep throwing away billions of dollars than admit that Harper was right on Canada Post needing reforms.
So the government gave 1.01 billion to themselves….
From one pocket to the same pocket
Never gonna see the repayment of that.
Why does everyone here have such a problem with Canada Post? Would you rather Amazon run our countries mail system?
How much money does Canada post owe the government at this point?
Convert Canada Post to Canadian Amazon.
We have the infrastructure, we just need the political will.
Kick Bezos to the curb. At the very least, give him strong domestic competition.
Dear lord
….it’s only a loan if it’s paid back.. ask northvolt about that. Noticing a pattern here, anyone else?
„Loan“ that great. What about the other ones never paid back that take tax payers money. Canada post is way beyond being a company like they want and claim. Become a crown cooperation and federal employees or declare bankruptcy like ever other delivery company. Enough already with you wanting the best of both worlds with zero accountability!
It’s disappointing there are people lined up at food banks, homelessness is at an all time high and hospital waits and our healthcare that isn’t suitable for a rat but we’ll keep shoveling money to something that can’t be fixed. Might as well give another billion to CBC while you’re at it
Loan- probably a forgivable loan- but that’s fine as it’s a overall benefit to everyone in Canada. Canada Post probably should double the cost of stamps though. Might sound dramatic but when I paid $30 to send a letter during the strike, there is great value in a $1 stamp that could easily tolerate an increase in price
Meanwhile….health care system falls apart….
Repayable Loan
Wonder how they get that back
Hopefully this can survive..as people do depend on their services and it’s as Canadian as it gets
Taxes will go up again…
Literally pissing away money at this point lmao
Another one?
Funny.
I remember during the last strike how the postal workers declared that they weren’t subsidized by taxpayer funding in any way whatsoever, and that the previous massive „loan“ was an aberration which would be promptly repaid.
Canada Post should become the Canadian Amazon. They’d be able to make money that way….
My mom spent $130 in early December to ship a package with a few small Christmas gifts for my son (we live abroad) and it never arrived. Tracking says it hasn’t left Canada and they’re making her jump through hoops to get a refund. They also lost my tracked immigration documents just a few months before that. We will NEVER use their service again. Not ever.
What do you call a loan that will never get paid back? A bail out! This is just more blarney from the carney crew.
They really must think we are stupid. Sadly they are partially correct!
Why
