  1. “That’s the point.” – Republican politicians.

It’ll be interesting if the passport becomes the defacto way to vote. That’s *really* going to limit the lower middle class bases for both parties.

Their own people like and depend on mail-in voting- you know, the ones who prefer to live in the middle of nowhere to make sure their neightbors are the „right sort,“ have worked blue-collar jobs for low pay all their lives, haven’t been able to afford decent health insurance (or think it’s „unmanly“ to see doctors regularly) and as a consequence have limited mobility and social interaction, those types really like mail-in voting. this disenfranching is going to be their first truly equal oopportunity initiative.

How is this not a poll tax? Most people can’t get documentation without paying some sort of fee.

And just like that, we’ll have, in essence, wealth-based voting. The founding fathers would be so proud

Republicans DEMAND voter ID but they’re also adamantly opposed to the democrats pathway to getting there, free voter IDs

H.R.4852 – IDs for an Inclusive Democracy Act would fulfill the ID requirement without disenfranchising people due to any cost.

With their refusal it’s 100% clear the purpose of the SANE act is to disenfranchise, and when it does so they’ll point to the reduced turn out as “proof” of their hypothesis.
