    Quoting the article:
On Wednesday, Poilievre is expected to sit down with Prime Minister Mark Carney for what the Conservative is calling an “urgent meeting” to discuss how both parties can rescue Canada’s trading relationship with the U.S. and accelerate parliamentary progress on a series of shared — and unshared — priorities.

“We don’t have time for credit taking or patting ourselves on the back. We need to start getting results for people now,” Poilievre said.

    ………………….

What slogans will he go with next?

    “Shift the Strategy”

    “Take the Credit”

    “Pretend to Care”

Well this is still a PP W, even if it is his only strategy post leadership to soften his image. I still think it is a good move for him, but it’s hard not to feel suspicious. After obstructing for several months.

    > I’m going to Washington because I want to help Prime Minister Mark Carney be successful in negotiating a trade deal with the United States. Now that might sound counterintuitive, because I am a principled Conservative. He is our Liberal prime minister. But the reality is that this is not a partisan issue,” Jivani said in a video posted on social media, adding that he was “acting” on Poilievre’s offer to help Carney with the trade file.

I do not trust Jivani in the slightest, including his close friendship and personal ties to JD Vance; and Trumpism overall, and his messy departure from the OPC. I trust Poilievre more than him, and that is a *crazy* statement.

Carney should use this meeting to invite Poilievre to apply for his security clearance. I can’t believe that so many people voted for someone without one.

  4. Absolutely hilarious. Politicians are most certainly chameleons, but watching the attack dog tuck his tail after years of him imitating Trump style divisive politics only for it to completely blow up in his face is laughable.

if PP was serious and not performative, there would not be any news stories about an urgent meeting. just have the meeting on how you can help and get on with it. as soon as it’s publicized, it’s politicized.

  6. This sudden shift in tone from Poilievre and the CPC, is something I don’t trust.

When the tariff threats first started, Trudeau invited all party leaders to brief them on the situation, and asked for a united front. Poilievre was the only one described as being unhelpful in the meeting, and basically telling Trudeau to give Trump what he wanted to secure the border (he even said this on TV).

Internal CPC polling probably shows positive numbers by working with the Liberals on this issue, especially ahead of the CUSMA renegotiation. After Carney’s Davos speech, they probably want to preserve the old world order, and this is through a CUSMA deal.

Tariff threats that affect Canada’s sovereignty should not be a partisan issue. But it’s hard to take Poilievre and the CPC seriously when they haven’t been helpful this whole time.

“ Hello? Mr Carney? I’d like to be friends now. Please let me prove that I’m not all about Trudeau for the next 10 years…“

You know, I see a lot of negativity in this thread, and on the surface I get it. Its hard to get past the partisan politics of the past.

But given the political air we have right now, with members of all political parties calling for unity, can we maybe just have a shred of optimism for this? I’m not the biggest fan of PP’s policies or the rhetoric he used in the last election. But this reads as possibly a genuine pivot to a new way of conducting politics and his behavior as leader of the opposition.

I’m willing to give it a chance, because I would LOVE if our parties would stop trying to sling more shit at one another than their competitors rather than working together for the people. I hope I’m not in the minority with this sentiment… because I REALLY don’t want Canadian politics to get as toxic as it is south of the border.

87% of a hand-picked group deep in conservative territory who can also afford $1000/plate is not a decisive victory

  10. It’s one of those situations where it’s not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

It’s realizing that the gift horse is actually a donkey, and it may in fact be a face eating leopard in disguise.

Harper must have pulled back pretty hard on the reins to get this reaction out of PP… unfortunately he also has a ton of back benchers who do stupid shit like trying to get Abortion Bans put into place. (or head down to Washington to try to negotiate for Canada without being requested by the actual government).
