Cool , Carney will be laser beamed on economics for at least for the next 2 years.

I wonder what swing voters are thinking about right now . There jobs or conversion therapy bans.

    > After handing Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre a strong endorsement, … More than 90 per cent of delegates also called for a restoration of „meritocracy“

    Hm. Riiiight.

I think “meritocracy” here is thinly-veiled “straight white male”.

Anyways, I read right to the end of the article and it just sort of … ended. There was no conclusion or anything. What a weird editor to approve that.

    >Delegates at the Conservative Party’s national convention in Calgary voted overwhelmingly Saturday to enact a „stand your ground“-style law to allow someone to protect themselves with lethal force against an intruder in their home.

    >This was one of dozens of policies debated and adopted by delegates at this biannual gathering, many of which focused on crime, immigration and social policy.

Isnt this something the SCC can strike down? Seems not like a great thing to do.

    >An overwhelming number of delegates — again, about 77 per cent — also endorsed a policy to pursue immediate deportation of non-citizens in Canada convicted of a serious offence, with a „default permanent ban on re-entry“ and provisions for „asset forfeiture“ of foreign criminals forced to leave.

    >As it stands, these criminals generally serve a sentence in Canada before facing deportation proceedings.

Hahaha – ICE literally just did this. Someone who was charged n the largest jewelry heist in the US basically got to skip trial completely. This sounds more a gift for any potential non-citizen that wants to be a bad actor. Do something serious? No punishment for you, immediate deportation.

    >Social conservative delegates pushed a resolution that would have made it official Conservative policy to oppose the existing „conversion therapy ban,“ which was enacted by the last Liberal government.

    >“We believe that ***parents have the right*** to arrange for body-affirming talk therapy for their gender-confused child, and we oppose the federal ‚Conversion Therapy Ban‘ which criminalizes parents for doing so,“ the proposed resolution read.

    >The main sponsor, Jack Fonseca, director of political operations at anti-abortion group Campaign Life Coalition, said a ***change is needed to crack down on what he called „woke school teachers“ who he alleged were encouraging gender transitions.***

    >While a very narrow majority of delegates — 52 per cent — voted in favour of opposing the ban, it failed to get a „double majority,“ which requires resolutions to be passed not only by a majority of delegates but also by majorities in more than half the provinces and the three territories (which are counted as one jurisdiction).

This is insane, conspiracy nonsense in support of this position. To go from parental rights to seek conversion therapy to suggesting this policy is necessary because of woke school teachers are encouraging gender transitions is just not supported by fact. Social conservatives often spread so much disinformation about trans people, especially kids. Not to mention the distrust they induce towards the education system and teachers, too. No wonder some of them are so riled up when they think conversion therapy works and that schools can make your kid trans. It didn’t pass, but this stuff is such nonsense and so toxic.

    *information to disinformation

    >the party’s commitment to not enact a law restricting abortion

I don’t think this is an accurate description of CPC policy. Unless they *just* changed it, the party policy was that the Cabinet would not introduce or vote for laws restricting abortion but non-Cabinet MPs were free to introduce and vote for bills regarding abortion restrictions if they wanted to.

  7. After handing Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre a strong endorsement, … More than 90 per cent of delegates also called for a restoration of „meritocracy“

So they elected the guy who needed a gimmi seat to get back into parliament.
