      I have spent time in Minnesota. Out of all the states I have visited (most of them) it’s honestly the one I feel we share the most values with. I honestly already consider Minnesotans honorary Canadians

      No thank you. I did not like the 51st state talk, I will not support 11th province talk. They need to figure their own stuff out and if they cannot then they need to go independent

      The two sides of American self-importance is thinking they’re so valuable that either we should be honoured at the notion we could become a state or that it’s a foregone conclusion that we would want their states to join our country.

      Sorry, Minnesota, but as a Canadian we don’t want your ~~2.7 million~~ 1.5 million MAGA voters.

      Leave them behind and then maybe we can talk.

      This idea that Canadian states that are „the good ones“ can just join Canada when bad things happen really needs to stop. Americans need to learn to clean up their own messes and take responsibility and initiative for the way that their society is and stop making it everyone else’s problem for once.

      And specifically, Democrats need to acknowledge their own failings in politics and take responsibility there too – I have yet to see many of them acknowledge or really come to terms with the fact that *Kamala Harris campaigned on boosting ICE funding too*, and that nothing would really be that different under her presidency for a lot of people. Democrats are only mad now because white American-born people are now targeted too, if it was just the status quo where only immigrants and people of colour were targeted they’d be back at brunch.

      First of all… that’s not even possible. States are not allowed to separate like Canadian provinces. Dumb comment.

      You know, if any of the U.S. states or territories managed to obtain control over the nuclear arsenal the U.S. military stores on their land, I’m sure Canada could find a reasonable arrangement to ascend them into our federation, in exchange for our federation suddenly becoming a great power.

      I think the problem with all of these jokes people have about this or that state seceding to join Canada is that people don’t understand that outside of the major cities most of the people in these states are extremely conservative by Canadian standards. In fact even most people considered Liberal by American standards are pretty Conservative by Canadian standards.

      So as funny as Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin joining Canada is, it would be horrible for Canada.

      US States will never secede. Even if there was a mechanism, they wouldn’t pull the trigger. Pretty sure each state would have to get a portion of the trillions of debt they’re in. And our gun laws … I can’t see them accepting those. I don’t think Americans have truly thought about what that would mean.

      I dunno how serious he’s being. On the one hand it’s outlandish. On the other, Minnesota’s been invaded by ICE agents. That’s can’t be good for their union. I mean, doesn’t that cross a line between the feds and the state?

      I don’t know anything about Minnesota. I guess if they voted to secede I could welcome them in confederation. It would be a rejection of what the US has become. But it won’t happen.
