      Its hard to imagine how this will turn up, the Cuban regime is not Venezuela, all meaningful opposition has been crushed, nobody there has lived under any sort of semi functional democracy and as much corruption as there is, there is also some degree of actual belief in their system by the elites.

      On the other hand, without oil any country simply full on collapses and Cuba was already long tethering on the edge of collapse long before this.

      Jeez, we’re really living through the most changing geopolitical times since 1991, maybe even WWII.

      China has a listening station in Cuba and Russia still has a presence there . That and Venezuela is to keep those bad players out of our area of influence .

      Eliminating Cuba guarantees the Republicans Texas and Florida. It also eliminates any major support for Nicaragua, the last bastion of Chinese power in the Americas. So if China invades Taiwan, the US can focus all of its resources there instead of holding part of it back in the US to fight of Chinese strikes.

      Isn’t this kind of an admission that Cuba’s issues primarily stem from the US‘ tight control on their (lack of) trade?
      Rather that simply „socialism“.

      Cuba seems like it was surviving only because the consequences for other countries trading with them weren’t severe enough. But that at any moment, like now apparently, the US can decide to ramp it up and wipe out civilization in Cuba.
