    Die 10 sichersten und gefährlichsten Städte in den Vereinigten Staaten, basierend auf Daten von 2023.

    Der ursprünglich verwendete Datensatz basierte auf Städten mit a Einwohnerzahl ab 65.000. Nach Angaben des US Census Bureau erfüllen 640 Städte und Vororte dieses Kriterium, allerdings verfügten nur 518 dieser Städte und Vororte über Kriminalitätsdaten. Der "US-Durchschnitt" Die Gewaltkriminalitätsrate von 470 ist der Durchschnitt dieser 518 Städte und Vororte.

    Einige interessante Fakten:

    • Memphis, Tennessee (die gefährlichste Stadt) weist eine hohe Gewaltkriminalitätsrate auf 30-mal höher als Irvine, Kalifornien (die sicherste Stadt)
    • In vier Bundesstaaten standen mehrere Städte auf diesen Listen: Kalifornien, Wisconsin, Texas und Utah
    • Texas und Utah sind die einzigen Bundesstaaten mit zwei Städten auf der Liste der zehn sichersten Städte
      • Texas (McAllen ist Nr. 6 am sichersten und College Station ist Nr. 8 am sichersten)
      • Utah (Orem ist Nr. 7 am sichersten und Provo Nr. 10 am sichersten)
    • Kalifornien und Wisconsin sind die einzigen Bundesstaaten mit Städten auf beiden Listen
      • Kalifornien (Irvine ist die sicherste Nummer 1, Thousand Oaks die sicherste Nummer drei und Oakland die gefährlichste Nummer sechs)
      • Wisconsin (Eau Claire ist Nr. 5 am sichersten und Milwaukee Nr. 8 am gefährlichsten)

    Was als a galt "Stadt" für diese Liste? Ich habe dies in drei Kategorien unterteilt: Kernstädte, Hauptstädte und Vororte. Die Kernstadt ist in der Regel die größte und wichtigste Stadt im Ballungsgebiet, a Hauptstadt können andere Städte in der Metropolregion sein, die für sich genommen eine herausragende Rolle spielen, und Vororte sind andere verbleibende Städte. Zum Beispiel habe ich die Metropolregion Dallas aufgeschlüsselt: Dallas (Kernstadt), Fort Worth (Hauptstadt) und Arlington und der Rest (Vorort). Für diese Listen habe ich nur Kern- und Hauptstädte gezählt, nicht Vororte.

    Diese "Stadttypen" sind alle subjektiv, daher werden einige Städte (wie Irvine, Thousand Oaks und Orem) möglicherweise anders kategorisiert, als Sie sie kategorisieren würden. Hier sind die 5 nächstsichersten Kern- und Großstädte, um die Top 15 abzurunden:

    Hier sind die 5 zweitgefährlichsten Kern- und Großstädte, um die Top 15 abzurunden:

    • Birmingham, Alabama (1.429,06)
    • St. Louis, Missouri (1.409,04)
    • Flint, Michigan (1.376,07)
    • Lansing, Michigan (1.374,79)
    • Beaumont, Texas (1.373,90)

    Dies sind die Top-5-Städte mit der niedrigsten Gewaltkriminalitätsrate, wenn man die Vororte mit einbezieht (über 65.000 Einwohner).

    • Castle Rock, Colorado (23,69)
    • Sammamish, Washington (24.30)
    • Yorba Linda, Kalifornien (43,23)
    • Apex, North Carolina (46,44)
    • Johns Creek, Georgia (48,51)

    Datenquellen: Diese Daten stammen von zwei Hauptstandorten. Erstens war die Polizei der Stadt gefragt, ob sie über Daten verfügte. Wenn nicht, ging ich zum NIBRS-Bericht des FBI. Die Daten für Anchorage, Detroit, Little Rock, Portland, Oakland, Milwaukee, Irvine, Thousand Oaks, Virginia Beach und McAllen stammten von der Polizeibehörde ihrer Stadt. Während die Daten für Memphis, Cleveland, Baltimore, Kansas City, Nashua, Eau Claire, Orem, College Station, Bellevue und Provo aus der USA stammten FBI NIBRS Bericht.

      Data Sources: This data was sourced from two main locations. First, was the city’s police department, if they had data available. If they didn’t, I went to the FBI NIBRS report. The data for Anchorage, Detroit, Little Rock, Portland, Oakland, Milwaukee, Irvine, Thousand Oaks, Virginia Beach, and McAllen were from their city’s police department. While the data for Memphis, Cleveland, Baltimore, Kansas City, Nashua, Eau Claire, Orem, College Station, Bellevue, and Provo were from the FBI NIBRS report.

      Anchorage is #2? It’s so much less populous than the others. What’s contributing to that?

      Would be much more interested in seeing 2024-2025 data considering the historic drop in violent crime in Baltimore

      Semi-facetiously, I wonder if McAllen, TX is so low because it’s the fattest city in the US. Either violent crime is more challenging, or the behaviors of the average resident are too sedentary for violent crime.

      I grew up in Irvine during its peak boom years (2000-2024ish).

      It’s a bubble. We all call it that. Police pickup the homeless and dump them in Santa Ana or Anaheim. Anything to maintain the reputation.

      Everything is a facade. There’s no community. The only free activity is the Great Park and everything else is so expensive. Biracial community of mostly first/second generation Korean and Chinese immigrants and white Americans.

      It’s a really unique city. but it’s very affluent and soooo insulated from the real world. Excellent restaurants though. And yeah, no crime at all.

      Funnily enough, I lived in Suffolk, VA for 3 years. It is a nice enough place, as is Virginia Beach. They straddle some of the more violent metro areas (Portsmouth and Norfolk) in the country. Virginia Beach is super safe, but Portsmouth and Nawfuck are complete nightmares. For context, I think Portsmouth would be somewhere around 1340 here. Nawfuck is more anectdotal.

      I commend you on collecting the data and presenting it this way. Would you ever consider coloring the states on the basis of their gun control laxity or not? Is there any correlation between these rates and open carry for example?

      These analyses single out cities in highly fragmented metro areas as artificially more dangerous.

      This list seems off – if you google crime rates and look at Wikipedia’s page that sorts based on FBI data alone, the list is very different. Portland, for example, is like 57th on the list when sorted by violent crime rates. Portland has high property crime rates, but not violent crime compared to other cities of a similar size. Also Lansing?

      Maybe different police departments record/report incidents differently. The FBI does [compiled reporting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Crime_Reports) so I’m not sure why you’d try to source two ways here – seems to be causing issues!

      Portland?! I’ve been to Portland. Portland Shouldn’t be on this list?

      This is just false. At best you’ve made some large calculation mistakes, have errors in evaluating the raw datasets, or you mixed datasets together.

      We have Portland’s crime rates going back years. It has never been above 800, let alone 1700. This is so off that it’s hard not to think there is some ulterior motive in posting this.

      Please tell me you know that some cities log the same incident as two separate offenses if the single incident contained two seperate crimes…

      Did you separate the offense-based and incident-based datasets? Do know that standard evaluation of violent crime rates count incidents not offenses?

      This list smells fishy. Little Rock, Arkansas? Place is full of suburbanites and safe af.

      And St Louis, MO isn’t even on the list? Impossible.

      It’s my understanding there are many cities that refused to submit data to be included in the NIBRS report or classified crimes „differently“ and that’s being generous. Los Angeles, Chicago,
      Etc…

      The more telling data would be a list of cities that failed to report.
