Mexiko verlangt vom Nationalen Wahlzentrum einen Lichtbildausweis und befleckt Ihren Daumen, damit Sie nicht zweimal wählen können.

Yahtzee. Notice it says photo ID and citizenship. It does not say digital ID.

Anyone who has ever voted in the US knows that your information is checked against state voting records. Records are kept when a vote is cast, making it quite difficult for a person to cast two two votes in the same district.

They could potentially cast a provisional ballot if their identity can’t be verified. That’s a ballot that is kept separately from non-provisional ballots and only counted when they’re verified the voter’s identity.

There exists no measurable vote fraud in the US. Nothing that would swing elections.

The GOP’s lame attempts at throwing shade on our elections does nothing but undermine our democracy. John Thune can go suck an egg.

I would be completely OK with this as long as the President Elections have the same exact rules and regulations for every state and county. Since this naturally violates State rights, most Conservatives would be against this in Red states.

The key is it would have to done in every county and I would wage someone will find exceptions somehow.

The policy could be fine in the abstract. It is not fine in the present because we know 100% that barriers are being put in place to prevent people from getting id. And even people who do have ID it may not be sufficient – for example every woman who changed their name as part of a marriage and doesn’t have all of the paperwork handy in time to vote.

Cool make photo IDs free and have locations everywhere to process them.

There isn’t a DMV in my town. I have to drive an hour one way to go to a DMV office. Passport/social security office? 2 to 3 hours away.

Yes we should take advice from Mexico, they are the bastion of free democratic elections!

Someone has to be really stupid or lazy to not maintain a valid photo ID. You need one in so many aspects of life, so you have to be really disengaged from society to fail at this simple task. I don’t care if people like that aren’t able to vote.

Serial number the ballots like we serial number our money

Problem solved – There are solutions to these issues

    9. In Mexico there are offices everywhere to get that photo ID. We use it for basically any official paperwork. There are also some bus offices that drive to remote places so people can get their ID. It is free and it is just normal to have.

Edit: it’s also possible to get photo ID even if you live under the grid and have no valid ID. They would ask you for a bit more info, we have a national ID number where they can pull all your data birth info, and some witnesses with valid ID to confirm your address. Since we use this ID quite a lot basically everyone has a valid ID.

Married people who have changed their name, including 69 million (!!!) women with a maiden name, do not have a name on their photo ID that matches their birth certificate. This „SAVE“ act would disenfranchise millions of people.

They have been told for a year now that this is a massive problem, but they refuse to change the language because the SAVE act is being deliberately used as a tactic to disenfranchise legitimate voters for political advantage.

    11. I wonder what the new scapegoat is going to be if Republicans do all this and still lose the midterms

    12. kizentheslayer on

Anyone is against this is up to something. Any us citizen can get a valid ID from the dmv.

    13. DiscountEven4703 on

Are people still voting ? lol

How is it going so far?

      Think it’s rigged yet?

Keep the peasants believing their voice matters

    14. Conscious-Demand-594 on

The Mexican government practically gives all citizens IDs from birth free of charge, renewed at 18 years. National IDs actually make a lot of public services a lot easier to navigate.

    15. foreverloveall on

Rest assured ICE goons will be crawling all over those polling places. IDing people. Detaining citizens that don’t carry their ID. Harassing Americans as they vote.

      🇺🇸

    16. I don’t understand the opposition to requiring an ID to vote. They either A) think minorities are too dumb to get their own IDs or B) clearly removing obstacles for illegal voters

    17. Why is everyone so opposed to showing ID/DL to vote?

What is the problem with requiring proof of who you say you are?

      Can someone ELI5?

This is from someone who has had a DL my entire life, across multiple cities and states, never expired and always renewed on time.

This act is to ensure 80 percent of married women loose the the right to vote due to taking partners last name. Don’t listen to MSM fox news propaganda. Project 2025 wants one vote per household they are very open about this.

    19. Ok-Brick-1800 on

They have been planning this for a long time. See the real id law that was passed in California 10 years ago but implemented last year.

You can’t get on planes without a real id or passport as well. This is nothing new. We have too many illegals here posing as Americans.

    20. Nice. I get people saying what about poor people or old people, they can’t get id’s…but like the elections are every 2-4yrs. That should be enough time to arrange something.

    21. 1pt21jigglewatts on

They don’t need voter fraud when they can just have all the competition murdered and nobody questions it.

    22. The main critique I have been hearing is about how if your name on your ID doesnt match your name on your birth certificate, then you wont be able to vote, meaning half the country (mostly married women that have changed their name) is going to have to pay $90 for a passport or something that is acceptable proof of citizenship. On a more conspiracy note, many people think the senate is going to try to wait for midterms to enact the act, making those people unable to vote in the midterm elections

    23. DaveDavidsen on

Oh no I have to prove who I am to vote. Was I not doing that already for damn near 30 years?

    24. In the US, they have a dozen election supervisors that have a list. They check off your name on the list when they hand you a ballot to prevent you from voting twice.

      They check your ID

This is better than Mexico. You can’t wash your hands.

    25. blueandgold777 on

Good. Some people will claim „but it’s hard for so and so to get their ID“, etc., but the fact is for the vast majority of people in the U. S., it’s relatively easy to get their ID, at least, the people who should have the ability to vote. There are very, very few people who represent the exemption to this.

Anyone who claims otherwise is simply being deceitful, because what they really want is the ability to cheat. They’re full of shit.

    26. take_the_reddit_pill on

I’m a hard-core lefty. I have no problem with voter ID. I think the thumbprint is simple and easy. I do not believe widespread election fraud has occurred. I’m tired of the endless years of unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud from Trump and the rest of the right. I think this is an excellent way ti lay that b.s. to rest.

    27. Now all we have to do is stop letting blue states and city’s give illegals drivers licenses…..

    28. BullShtDtctr on

I find it funny that conservatives continually scream fraud and point to vague bullshit like this.

If it’s so obvious wheres the proof? Remember when my pillow guy was had undeniable proof for like 6 months? Everytime Trump talks about it it’s just vague waving around. Nothing substantial at all, 0 proof

    29. coffeegrounds42 on

The SAVE act will just hurt anyone who has changed their name such as married women and trans two groups of people who don’t vote republican as much as they like.

    30. Will it require photo ID and proof of citizenship? Will all documents need to match the voter registration as well? So people would have to change all their documents if married or name changed?
