Every household in Japan should send NHK a box of old junk via 着払い in protest at this decades-long extortion racket.

So NHK claims each and every owner of a device that can receive signals must pay their NHK fee, but what about companies using TVs to display adverts in stores, or offices using TVs as a digital display? What about schools and their use of TVs? Are they exempt? Do they have to pay an NHK license fee for each of those devices? The devices technically can receive the NHK signal, it’s just not connected to anything.

Good thing I don’t have a TV. They came and I told them that I don’t have one and asked if they wanted to check. They came in and found no tv and left.

To make it fair, they should do the same as the UK does and only charge fees for people who *watch* broadcast TV, not people who merely own equipment that might be capable of viewing NHK programmes (since that technically includes laptops and smartphones).
