„“I know some people are saying, especially those who oppose this program are saying, there’s not enough money. Well, you can’t have it both ways,” the minister said.
“We’ve had a really good start at the pace we’re going. We should still have adequate resources, so we’re encouraging people to go ahead and apply.”
The federal public safety department on Monday announced that it had so far received declarations for slightly more than 22,000 guns after opening the registration window one week earlier.
…
Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta have also declined to take part, same with the territorial governments of Yukon and the Northwest Territories.“
I mean its just comical at this point how completely idiotic this whole saga has been, Carney was handed the easiest nonpartisan win of all time on a silver platter and fumbled it spectacularly
Can’t have what both ways? I understand that one of the things we can’t have is a properly funded program that pays gun owners fair market value for the guns they are turning in, but what is the other thing he is referencing?
I don’t think that there is an inherent contradiction in saying that the buyback is an enormous waste of time and money, while also saying that if it goes ahead it should be properly funded as to not screw over the gun owners who feel like they have no choice in complying. In both scenarios the people he is addressing are advocating for the gun owners.
Don’t forget, this minister admitted privately that this is a bad program ([full transcript](https://www.conservative.ca/gary-in-his-own-words/)), but he’s being paid by the Liberal Party (and taxpayers) to pretend he likes it.
Highlights from the transcript showing his genuine thoughts on the program:
* It’s being implemented to cater to the Quebec electorate
* He doesn’t believe the resources are available to enforce it
* The approach will be different in the future and this is only being done because it was promised 5 years ago
* He’s doing it because Carney says he has to
* If he could redo this program from scratch, it would be entirely different
* He’ll bail a citizen out from jail if he’s charged with any crimes relating to this, but he doesn’t think that will happen because police can’t enforce it
