So he’s referring to when WLMK refused a ship full of European Jews asylum, so that ship went to Brazil where it was refused port, then had no choice but to return to Europe where most passengers ended up in camps.

  2. Complicit in the murder of Jews?

I think the 45k+ Canadians who gave their lives fighting against the Nazis would like a word. But they can’t as they are laying in cemeteries across Europe.

Also 1.1+ million Canadians served in the armed forces over the corse of the war

    What more do you expect?

„We must stand up for the right of Jews to live safely, peacefully and openly with the Star of David on their chest, with a mezuzah on the door, with a kippah on their heads, proudly proclaiming their Judaism and celebrating who they are as both Canadians and Jews,”

Would he stand-up to Quebec where you lose your job if you wear a kippah and are employed by the government?

Well he should do some amends and open the records to how many Nazis (and who) we let in the country after WW2. By doing this we prevented justice from happening and helped protect war criminals

  5. There is no room for antisemitism but when people conflate it with anti-Israel the let the Israeli government off with a free pass to commit its own war crimes.

We don’t conflate Iran’s actions with Islam. Or individual priests actions with Christianity.

I think it’s good to acknowledge this, it’s how you grow and don’t get trapped into thinking our shit doesn’t stink- like the Americans

This is great. I hope he’s willing to give the same treatment to Libya, Iraq, Syria, and the rest of the countries we were complicit in destroying to go along with the rules based order he admitted was fake. We participated in the fiction because it was beneficial for us. Millions of people were killed we were complicit.

Time for our Davos truth teller to apply his principles to everything not just what’s convenient. After all the liberals are all about truth and reconciliation, I’m sure that’s not just meaningless bromide trotted out when it suits them.

Holocaust Remembrance Day is not about the Second World War, it is about remembering a time when minorities were ruthlessly being persecuted and killed in their home countries, and the world did essentially nothing. This is also to remember what we didn’t do as a nation when could have and should have. Unfortunately, our nation was very antisemitic in the early to mid twentieth century and refused to assist legitimate refugees fleeing for their lives. This is a stain on our collective history. This is what we need to remember and learn from. Nie wieder.

Hes absolutely correct. And so many around the world have continued to turn a blind eye to all sorts of similar atrocities.. or at least ones in the same vein.
The Un had people in Rwanda during the genocide… they knew it was happening and the Un didnt act.
We all just witnessed another genocide in Gaza… did anyone meaningfully step in?
Similar hate fueled policies are currently being carried out in the us…. and other than some citizen protesters what’s actually being done about it?

Im not sure how we solve this… problems are always going to feel more real the closer they get to home.. people are always going to care more about people similar to them…. its a damn shame.

For myself, it is a reminder how evil and cruel humans can become. To forget or ignore what had taken place, increases the odds of savagery for evil re occurance. Peace out.

Unless we’re looking away from the Uyghurs because we really, really want to cut some trade deals with China, of course. Or the Sudanese, because they have nothing we want and there are no Jews involved. It’s okay in those cases. /s, obviously

Canada under Carney is the most antisemitic the country has been since those days. It’s not a coincidence.

Why is this country always trying to guilt me into feeling culpable for things I had no part in?
