Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean that all the yellow states have lost population, but that the blue states have grown in population faster relative to the others. My state, Oregon, for example has grown since 2020 but very modestly according to wikipedia (0.8%). Im ok with the slow population growth here, hopefully will take some of the pressure off housing prices

I think the electoral college as it exists today should be reduced to a mechanism that simply delivers each states popular vote count to congress. This fuckery needs to stop.

    3. One solution that does not require constitutional change would be to increase the amount of representatives. This will allow for states to still maintain representation.

Not american. How does this happen? Population change in these states?

lol, keep having abortions and spreading anti-natalist propaganda, democrats

We need to establish a fixed population number for house reps and uncap the total. This nonsense shuffling around of the existing number that got arbitrarily stuck in time in the 1920s is just another anti-democratic barrier to recognizing the will of the people.

congrats to the libs on not building any housing, it’s working out great

One thing that could help fix the EC with out abolishing it (abolishing would be better, but that would require a constitutional amendment) would be to remove the current upper limit on number of delegates. That hard limit on the total number of delegates is driven, presently, by the lack of physical space in the house. You heard me right, there are not enough physical seats in Congress. Which is why you have states like Wyoming which has one delegate for every 600,000 people and then Delaware which has one delegate for every 1,000,000 people.

Now, take this all with a grain of salt as I could be wrong about the situation, but that is how I understand it.

    9. I always liked this part of the democracy in the US, it keeps it fair and makes sure each vote has the same worth.

We will see Texas turn blue in our lifetime, if not this next election. Trump only got 56% of the vote in Texas last election, and tons of California residents are moving to Texas due to cost of living. When Texas turns blue the Republicans will be cooked

    11. Texas is shifting, albeit slowly blue. It took 40 years to go red and the is slowly happening. Stronger state wide candidates and smaller victories down the ticket. A divided state GOP helps.

If George W. Bush had this map in 2000, he would have cruised to victory 303-235.

More of the Hispanic population voting for Republicans. Higher republican registrations per year. And 10 extra republican seats here soon. Doom and gloom for the Ds 😛

Should note this is probably a more extreme projection than what will actually happen. Covid really skewed the numbers. Year over year NY isn’t losing people for example.

    15. However, as it is set up currently, the seats are not truly proportional to population. Due to each state being guaranteed at least one rep, it is skewed to smaller states. Even in this scenario there’s the ridiculous case in which Delaware has the same amount of representatives as Wyoming despite almost having twice the population.

We are seeing northern boomers retire to warmer climates and people getting priced out of expensive housing markets in real time.

Looks like a future run by conservatives. Welp, so much for civil rights.

New York’s loss of 20 seats over the decades is nothing short of generational political malpractice.

This will make dems winning the presidency so much more difficult in the 30s

    20. molten-glass on

Sure would be nice if we had actual proportional representation instead of a capped number of House reps

    21. cactopus101 on

Democratic Party has committed party suicide through restrictive zoning policies. We need to right the ship immediately and start building housing

Texas could back fire from what I’ve heard. I don’t know about Florida they kinda suck

    23. Value_Squirter on

If non citizens were to no longer be counted for purposes of congressional seat representation the democrats would likely lose 20 to 25 seats immediately. Republicans would lose none.

I strongly suspect that this issue will be decided by SCOTUS in the coming years.
