yes very nice make american companies collect our passport data 🥳
That’ll solve the
whatever
Interesting! Last time there was a survey in Poland. Afaik current gov suppprters favor ban (like 80% support). Opposition still suppprts it (like 60% support?)
Yay, more personal data collection. Also not stopping anyone from bypassing it.
Crazy that governments are just putting age verification requirements. Even before trying put companies accountable, so they just gave up and wants users to upload their ID to platforms which has been fined by EU for multiple violations about user data?
I think they’re worried about the wrong thing
VPN sales are about to go through the roof in France!
Hell yeah, more censorship is coming. Get ready to live under the dystopia we’ve been claiming China is. Only bad things happen here, can’t have anything good because it might result in lower profits for a politician’s donors.
these laws aren’t about protecting children.
they are about harvesting your adult ID information.
devices already have parental controls. just use them.
I’m shocked people are mad about this lol. Social media is demonstrably destructive to society and the effect is stronger the younger and more malleable you are. I think this is great.
Oh yes, what a great idea
I hope there’s also youtube included like in Australia
Seriously, what is this? Way too many stuck in the past boomers in the goverment or just politics in general
Say I could understand if they wanted to try to limit facebook, X, Instagram
But when Ive read it included Youtube in Australia, I was like WTF you cannot be serious
Make it 18, like alcohol or tobacco.
je sens venir la vague de vérification d’identité pour se connecter a son réseau social favori
elle est la, la douille
Banning is easier than educating but i don’t think it’s gonna fix the core problem, just like the prohibition didn’t stop people from getting smashed.
I’m french, this is a great policy.
There is so much talk about privacy that ignores that teens exclusivly use their phone and share so much.
I mean they put their name on Facebook and we act surprised : „you have to give your age, its so invasive“ lol
In 10 years when the extremists have taken power and use this against you, just remember that it’s the future you chose
But you can still date your teacher
I’m against overregulation, but this is something I view similar to alcohol and driving. It’s just not for kids.
I’d prefer it if we taught kids early on how to use media of any kind (it’s as important as any other school subject nowadays, imo), so that we wouldn’t have to worry too much about it. But as is, social media is just so toxic for children in particular, there’s no value in it. Let kids grow up in the here and now, with the people surrounding them in their immediate environment. Adults can’t properly navigate the internet, let alone kids.
An alternative I’d be even happier with would be to ban the industry and politics from social media. Ads will be illegal; political content should be seen like sexual content: something that is inappropriate outside of specific and clearly discernible spaces (marked with clear labels and 18+ filters). Political parties and governments are not allowed to participate. Then social media has true value as a community service. And as such it should be officially funded (without being officially influenced aside from the aforementioned clear rules), so that it doesn’t need ads, sponsors or influencers.
ah yes, 15 but not 16 or 17 so teens still got time to get addicted and move their societal lives there like big corporations want it
Article title is a little misleading
> The lower National Assembly adopted the text by a vote of 130 to 21 in a lengthy session that started yesterday.
> It will now go to the Senate, France’s upper house, ahead of becoming law.
This will likely to challenge in court.
Alright, I know people are really upset about this, and I don’t want to give my ID to any shit company either (I also won’t).
But hear me out here. If the goal was really to protect children, which it clearly isn’t, but that’s not the discussion I’m trying to have. IF it’s really about protecting children, what do you suggest the government should do instead of this?
