      Yeah because France wants the money spent within the EU. Perhaps on SCALP. But I think they’re going to have to adjust to a reality where the supply isn’t there without external purchases.

      France inviting Ukraine to the G7 summit in June and saying whatever can be done to support Ukraine they will actively promote…. unlessssss its giving a single cent to those dastardly brits then you can just go fuck yourself lol

      Like you wanna protect French and EU industry? Fine. But doing in the context of letting Ukrainians die whilst shouting about EUROPEAN defence and that you’re supposedly doing all you can to help is hilarious if it wasnt so sad

      Que? Storm Shadow is a very heavily French missile; you’re telling me that even if it’s the British line that does final assembly French industry doesn’t benefit? Or that if they order from the French one, the British industry wouldn’t have to play it’s part?

      That one’s a bit of a fishy story, in the sense of „this is probably just the Telegraph making shit up“.

      I’m gonna copy my comment from another post :

      So first if you read the actual article, it has barely anything to do with the title, second, it’s still unclear the details of how this fund will works for everyone (so for example 50% of french components could be enough to be eligible or it could not be) last i heard something like 75% + was going directly into the european industry and the other Ukraine could spend it on anyone, and lastly, french position always was assumed that this fund should focus on european industry and even key things like patriot missiles should not receive it.

      So maybe it will result into things like i don’t know patriot missiles made by germany not eligible or at the opposite them being eligible because it’s x% german and there is no reason it would not also apply to Storm Shadow/SCALP which would also be a loss for France if not eligible.

      This is specifically regarding the 90 billion loan right? Yeah, a pretty explicit part of that was the EU manufactories should be prioritized. Taurus would be a far better choice and if that’s what France is angling for that’s honestly great if it succeeds.

      The usage of non-EU weapons should be a pragmatic bridging option, not a way to prevent the Telegraph from writing yet another patriotic piece about French hostility. People who want to complain that the „EU boycots Britain“ are being ridiculous, 34% of British arms exports go to the EU and that absolutly isn’t reciprocated. Buying from each other goes both ways normally.

      For Scalp vs Storm Shadow there wouldn’t be that big of a economical distinction in French gains so I think commentors are wrong to focus on that.

      So why don’t the UK government fund the purchase of Storm Shadow missiles?

      Ukraine has a multitude of needs so why not focus EU funds on buying EU weapons and UK funds on buying UK weapons? Ukraine gets more then.

      What’s wrong with wanting EU money to be used within the EU..?

      Remember, EU money is your money collected from taxes. And this is actually a future EU debt. The UK left the EU, end of the story.

      It’s a shame this slows Ukraine down, but… Europe must also impose conditions, and the European fund must serve European businesses.
      Yesterday, Europe financed the world’s industries and got stabbed in the back. Now it’s time to think and act as Europeans, even if it goes against the grain of the current situation. America didn’t hesitate to swindle the world and betray Ukraine. England made its decision during Brexit without considering Europe’s interests, sacrificing moral common sense to advance its agenda.

      That makes sense: European money should support European industry. The UK chose to leave the EU and that decision has consequences.

      There is also an element of payback for AUKUS. French and US defence contractors are powerful industrial lobbies and naturally see the UK as a competitor. The UK’s difficulties in accessing EU funding and integrating its weapons onto the F-35 both reflect this industrial rivalry.

      France increasingly seems determined to build a European defence capability without relying on British involvement.
