Think of all the arty that would need to be directed onto that patch of forest to achieve a similar effect of a vehicle destroyed and 6-7 personnel killed or severely wounded. Sure, there’s a chance that one shell could do it, but more-often-than not, it would take 10-12 shells to achieve the same result.
With, let’s say 10 HE rounds costing roughly $8000 each, that’s $80,000. meanwhile, 5 FPVs costing about $1000 each, brings the total to $5000. You see how cheap it’s becoming to kill in the modern battlefield.
That’s not taking into account the cost of training and fielding an artillery gun and crew, vs a drone crew. I’m pretty sure the „sustainment economics“ is also in favour of FPV warfare.
SLAVA UKRAINI!
Well done, sláva Ukraíni! Heroyam Slava! 🇺🇦🇨🇭🇺🇦🇨🇭🇺🇦
It still fascinates me that these are laying down a cable the thickness of a fishing wire behind them – even when spiralling through the trees. A canny orc would rush around some trees and try to snap the cable but they come so fast and it’s hard to move and think that quickly – plus it’s near impossible to see!
It also wouldn’t surprise me if quite a few FO drones fail when they suddenly lose the signal due to inadvertent cable severing – after all, they commonly fly along the roads past moving and burning vehicles etc.
They cut them when they pass, I’ve seen that. The observer is the kicker. Yeah you dodged one but now we know you’re there.
