      It is understandable that people are saying this now. Even if Reform win the seat, people will have long forgotten that he even put himself forward by the time of the Mayor election in 2028. (A bit like how nobody mentions how blocking Faiza Shaheen at Chingford safeguarded IDS there).

      Then by the next GE this will be of no net consequence.

      Now I’m not a polling guru, but I can immediately see why voters specifically in Manchester might not be representative of the entire country. “Let Burnham stand, voters exclusively in the city of which he is mayor say” would be a more honest headline. Not sure the rest of the country wants another leadership challenge after the last 10 years.
