They were afraid if they voted for Ariana. Cynthia would get all possessive and show up outside their homes

Something about the Academy has always seemed off to me, it’s so cliquey.

It couldn’t just be that it wasn’t better than the first movie?

For me the movies are just okay done musicals. Like to me not unlike Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd (except I do find Sweeney Todd really fun and like it more) – serviceable and solid, but Oscar-worthy…. I am not sure

  5. They both were nominated last year and I don’t think anything in For Good topped the first film, so it shouldn’t be that surprising.

Or, and I know this is crazy, maybe it just wasn’t a good movie?

There was nothing Oscar worthy about that movie. The creepiness had nothing to do with it

  8. I legitimately didn’t watch Wicked 2 just because the interviews with these two were so weird. No thanks.

They barely promoted Part II together, so this is an odd statement to hear now. But just goes to show that these over-the-top press tours are not as endearing as studios seem to think they are.

Somewhere in the past couple years, the TikTokification of press junkets has become completely obnoxious. I liked it when we’d have casts do a BuzzFeed quiz or a Vanity Fair game, but we don’t need them to play 900 games and act like they have codependency issues to sell the movie.

Nothing about this movie was better than the first one. There is no snub here.

They are both very creepy bc skeletons are creepy, like on Halloween. And they both look skeletal. I mean this literally. So yes.

I thought this was The Onion and was already laughing before seeing this is allegedly real

A ’source‘ from the overwhelmingly trusted and lauded journalistic site NEWS NATION NOW. Right.

Maybe it just wasn’t a good movie.

  14. If it’s true, it just means that the Oscar voters are as human as everyone else who thought Ariana/Cynthia were weird as hell

Ariana Grande seems to highly „managed“ meaning that everything she says and does is carefully calculated by her PR team. And Cynthia Erivo is just a horror show that nobody wants to see.

Its a distinctly worse movie than the first.

The play understood this and didn’t draw it out to be the same length as the first portion.

  17. The Academy is not a single brain trust. I doubt they were collectively creeped-out.

    This article is nonsense.

Also, it’s not like voters convene to discuss what to nominate and why.

  19. They are both either really weird AF or they’ve gone to a lot of effort to make people *believe* they’re weird AF. Whatever they were trying for, it fell flat. They are, together and individually, creepy. But it’s deliberate, so..eww.

  20. They did nothing different than the first one? Why would they deserve awards.
