Japans parteiübergreifende Zustimmung zu Steuersenkungen spiegelt den weltweiten Wandel hin zum Populismus wider

Well, yes, it *is* popular.

Working class people (who might once have begrudgingly accepted the necessity of reasonable levels of taxation) are now fed up paying ever „more for lesss“ while their pay remains low.

People are also just sick of waiting for the empty promises of wage growth or „trickle down“ BS neo-liberal economics.

So, I guess many people think „well, if I can’t get paid fairly then I want to at least keep what little I am paid…..so cut my taxes!“.

It is a recipe for disaster of course considering the potential ramifications (who will pay for the elderly who really need help?) – but it is easy to understand *why* elimination of consumption tax especially is so popular among workers. It’s a disproportionately heavy burden for those on average wages who are forced to spend most of their income (on stuff like….. food!).
