**Ah yes, when the Freemasons pulled the wool over the everyone’s eyes and turned a in name only union into a real united country.**
For a bit more backstory: During the Treaty of Paris (1856) the Great powers eventually agreed on a „plan of union with two lords, two administrations” for the two principalities.
So basically a union in name only with two different kings and two different governments that were going to be elected separately in each principality.
In response to this the Wallachian and Moldavian political elites, who were all part of the same freemason circles, hatched a cunning plan and arranged for the same person, Alexandru Ioan Cuza (also a freemason), to be elected in both the Wallachian election and the Moldavian election.
The great powers faced with a fait accompli had no recourse but to acknowledge the full union of the two principalities.
EDIT: Also a reminder for the Russian troll commenting: Cuza was Moldavian not Wallachian.
That’s not what happened.
Moldova is on the left?

The original painting (this looks like a pixel art version of it) is made by Theodor Aman, a Romanian painter of Aromanian and Armenian origin.
