  1. Thailand and Laos should be half half, south Vietnam too(to represent Champa)

I don’t think Pakistan is going to be too happy with this map

  3. It’s definitely a mix everywhere. There is aspect from both cultures all over the continent.

You are high if you think Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar are all in the Indosphere

  5. CatoCensorius on

Mongolia is not in the Sinosphere. Very little cultural influence. They are in the Russosphere just like the rest of Central Asia.

  6. in terms of religion, maybe. but culturally, the indosphere isn’t that big

Southeast Asia is literally called Indochina because it’s a mix between India and China. They’re all mixed.

  8. Well, china itself should be under incomplete considering Buddhism originates in India.

  9. BenjaminHarrison88 on

All of them are mixed to some degree, at least toe southeast Asian ones. Even Vietnam, the most clearly in one camp, has Indian influences from the former cham states

Why is a country like Indonesia not more influential? They are a large country. Relatively stable from my outsider perspective. Controls some important shipping lanes. Seems like a recipe to be a more important player in Southeast Asia, yet never really hear about them.

Complete made up Internet slop bullshit. Thai Government from its origin have been mostly Chinese, including the royal family.

I don’t know why mongolia is grouped with China Japan and the Koreas.

It has far more in common with areas like Kazakhstan bashkorstan tuva Uzbekistan etc.

  13. as someone from SEA, i dont think this is completely accurate (besides MY & SG). All of SEA are mixed to a substantial degree. Heck u can definitely see some sino influence in Indonesia for sure.

  14. Tovarisch_Rozovyy on

Vietnam is mixed. There’re still remnants of Cham community, with Hindu/Islamic culture.

id add west asia to indosphere cuz historically theyve been part of the larger fold

  16. Dear_Milk_4323 on

Philippines was a mix of both before colonization. But I usually see Philippines placed in the Indosphere on these maps. Never in the Sinosphere

  17. Did some Indian come up this? How can Thailand, indonesia, Laos under Indosphere?

  18. fhjjjjjkkkkkkkl on

Only west Malaysia is mixed. East Malaysia is a world of its own with almost red sinosphere influence

I’m no expert on Japanese culture, but my sense is the typical Japanese guy would strongly object to the idea of categorized as being under China’s sphere of cultural influence. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so.

Every country on this map with Buddhist influences should be marked ‘mixed’ for better accuracy.

(And that would turn all red ones to purple).

  21. Laos and Vietnam have many cultural similarities, so I don’t know how you can say one is fully in the Sinosphere and the other is in the Indosphere

  22. Pretty sure cambodia is pro China. Dont they have organ farms for China in Cambodia?

  23. Justa_CuriousBoi on

And about India and China, they are most influenced by each-other. I would say both India and China are pretty similar culturally

  24. the part showed in the map is 20 million km2 and it’s population is 4,9B, other part of asia (middle east+asian russia+central asia) is 24 million km2 but has 0,7B population. other part of asia is almost empty when it compared to the part on the map. i wouldnt want to live in sinosphere or indosphere

  25. Philippines is more sinosphere in terms of recent sociocultural influence, but indosphere influence is much more historical and more territorial legacy
