  1. Submission Statement: Russia has lost a key ally in Venezuela, a country it had heavily invested in and supported since the mid-2000s. [Alexander Kolyandr](https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexander-kolyandr-97b04790/) explains that despite the warm relations between the two nations, with Venezuela’s leader Nicolas Maduro frequently praising Russia and its president Vladimir Putin, the economic cooperation between them has been limited, with the exception of Russian arms sales. Russia’s direct financial losses from its withdrawal from Venezuela are expected to be minimal, but the political and symbolic costs are likely to be more significant, as the Kremlin has lost a loyal friend and a potential bargaining chip in its relations with the US, particularly regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
