It is because a few things:
Western Europe is lulled into thinking Putin only wants to mess with eastern / Central Europe
Europe is an American customer for hardware, planning, logistics and manpower and research and manufacturing for most military
America and Russia skip Europe and Europe knows that
As he should, we are so godamm weak. Every politician should be fired for letting it get this far. 0 preparations for a hostile US and Russia. While the signs where there for over a ~~century~~ decade. And an active war for an additional 4 years now.
edit: i meant decade not century
While we’re at it, he also slammed (in a more general sense) inaction on Iran. It’s all one thing, as they say.
So instead of „slamming“ the US for straight up abandoning them, he goes against the ones who recently took out a loan to secure the funding of his country for the next 2 years and the people desperetly trying to compensate for the US just pulling out in an instant?
He’s bang on the money.
We love talking about tomorrow but never do anything today
I’m sick of every fucker thinking that Europe are somehow naive for not thinking that the rules-based order that the West has spent 80 years putting in place would be torn up by a supposed ally. How about criticising Trump for doing so instead of just making out like everyone else is weak and stupid for believing that the US might honour its commitments?
And let’s not pretend that Europe is toothless, France and Britain are still nuclear powers. Some of the commentary around this makes out like we all disbanded our armies and sold off our weapons and have just abandoned Ukraine to Putin.
The blame for how we arrived here sits squarely with Trump and Putin, and only with them.
I support Ukraine but what should Europe do? We send billions to him, we already said that we will not send troops. France now gives 2/3 of intelligence to Ukraine instead of the US. We have cut a lot of russian energy enduring higher prices here, i would be extremely careful with this type of declarations. There are already too many people bashing europe, we don’t need another one, especially one that we are helping at our expenses.
After a meeting with Trump?
What did Trump threaten?
Zelensky’s attacks on Europe are brazenly ungrateful and increasingly infuriating. European taxpayers are bleeding billions while facing inflation, housing shortages, and collapsing public services, yet are lectured for “not doing enough.” At the same time, wealthy Ukrainian elites and oligarch-linked figures live comfortably across Europe, spending euros, buying property, and enjoying a lifestyle funded indirectly by Western aid. This isn’t solidarity anymore; it’s exploitation. Europe is not Ukraine’s endless cash machine, and it has no obligation to bankroll a war while being publicly shamed by a government that shows little accountability for where the money goes. Patience is not infinite, and neither are taxpayers’ wallets.
He has to make a bit of noise these days as Europe has stopped putting him in the headlines…
I get his frustration. But we have done a lot for Ukraine. We cannot meet every demand he asks for without escalation. And yes we are bureaucratic. Making decisions aren’t quick and easy. But I don’t blame the chap for calling it out. He’s been in this for too long. They all have.
He has a point.
It seems that after his conversation with Trump, Zelenskyy has decided to take a swipe at Europe and parrot the Orange dictator’s talking points. Some gratitude that is.
He’s right. It’s not only Ukraine that needs a strong, united Europe, but Europe itself, and the entire democratic world. Okay, Trump became US president, why is Europe paralyzed by this? Maybe it’s time to change something?
Instead, for four years now, I’ve heard nothing but words, no action. And last year was a complete disaster. There weren’t even any words, and if there were, it was only from a position of weakness. Europe is always waiting for someone’s approval — be it Russia, the US, or even Orban. Lol, how do you expect to achieve anything when you need permission from Orban or Fico?
I know he has to butter up Trump, but this barely a week after the 90 billion in support for Ukraine is extremely rich…
All this Venezuela and Greenland talk has kind of put Ukraine on the back burner while Putin has continued to attack Kyiv knocking out their energy sources without anyone paying much attention to it.
he is right
Its the same shit that happened with Hitler, first attempts at appeasement, then the phony war.
So now Europe sucks but USA is great or what? Wtf
What a mouthpiece . All the shit trump has said and he praises them and Europe has been behind him all time and this is how repays Europe.
It seems to me that he needs somehow to redirect attention to Ukraine. Truth being said, I haven’t heard much about it the last 2 weeks because of Greenland.
Not European, but I’ll throw in my 2 cents. I feel like Europe has done quite a bit, and the conflict has started rousing the domestic defense industry in Europe and increasing defense budgets. So European nations are aware of the problem and are actively increasing defense.
That being said, it’s not okay for European nations to enter into a war economy for their sake. They’re not going to light themselves on fire to keep others warm. Sanctions are still in place on Russia, equipment and money is making its way to Ukraine. You’re also going to have a tough time convincing most European nations that their young men should go off to die in your war.
Another issue is that Putin has no plan that will give him an „out“. The fight will continue until Putin decides it will end, but the economy may shrivel and he will have to find a way to declare victory for his people or come out at a huge political loss. Wars are not easy to end. It’s tragic what is occurring in Ukraine, but I think you need to be grateful that there are people still willing to help you.
I’m not angry at Zelenskiy, he is right. But it was pretty obvious from the beginning that the EU would not step into this war or save Ukraine. It just wants to weaken Russia, that’s it.
The delusion some people had here – thinking troops might be sent because of heroic open letters and similar gestures – was really painful to witness. If we look at history (which tends to repeat itsel, right), the Western part of Europe has never helped. They left Poland, Czechia/Slovakia, and Hungary alone so many times – against the Mongols, the Ottomans, the Russians. And now, the same is happening with Ukraine. They are human shields for the rest of us, and it’s truly heartbreaking.
I think Zelenskiy should start to know when to shut up a bit, because even as a pro-Ukraine European he is becoming annoying. Europe just gave him 90 billion dollars (1/3 of Ukraine’s GDP) simply out of will. There is no treaty that Ukraine has with any European countries that demand such a high amount of money to be constantly given to a county that had no alliance with Europe and with nothing in return.
“Hey Europeans. The whole world is watching. Why don’t you do something?” -Americans
I support Ukraine full heartedly and do believe that they must defeat ruzzia. But not gonna lie, i am kind of getting fed up with this „EU Isnt doing enough“. Situation could be very different, EU could be like trump, demand mineral deals and everything in return. EU could be doing a lot less.
Zelensky should understand that he shouldnt be „slamming“ at EU’s direction considering EU is Ukraines closest supplier. EU’s population sees that, sees what usa is doing for Ukraine, sees what EU is doing for Ukraine, and could repeat that question which rightfully pissed everyone off – „When’s the last time you said Thank you?“…
This is because countering you know who has unfortunately become a full time job.
EU leaders will just take the insults, they’re used to it by now
Totally get the frustration. Ukraine should get enough to win not just to not lose.
Probably a little hard to counter Russia when you’re now also trying to deal with a traitorous United States….
I can completely understand his frustration, but I think we also need to accept reality – the EU is not a presidential federal structure and very likely never will be. It’s entirely about census finding and coalition building. It’s a network of small and medium countries, some of which are middle powers, many of which aren’t. They all have slightly different sets of agendas and world views and things don’t always allign perfectly. It’s also more than just the EU, you’ve other European countries in the broader neighbourhood, including the UK.
All you can really do in Europe is try to build that consensus and coalition. The biggest problem at the moment is the leadership isn’t really very inspirational or good at communication, and on the fringes you’ve the likes of Hungary’s current government and others undermining things.
What’s going on in Ukraine is utterly appalling but I’m not really sure what telling Europe that it’s not the USA achieves tbh. It doesn’t have those kinds of military resources on that scale. It’s also just not able to make instant decisions because it simply isn’t a single political entity. You have to be realistic about what Europe is. It’s not going to morph into a presidential republic with a narrow executive – that just isn’t possible.
Also NATO, being the parallel military coalition has been severely undermined by Trump – he’s just spent the last few weeks basically threatening Greenland for some unfathomably stupid reason, causing divisions and chaos at a time when that is the last thing Europe, Ukraine or the world needs. It’s also fairly clear that his support waxes and wains like his social media posts. One minute he’s gung ho to do something for Ukraine, the next he’s inviting Putin to join his Peace Board … You couldn’t make it up!
There’s a lot of weakness, chaos and rather more than a few bad actors in all of this.
Have anybody told him yet, that he is indeed not a king of Europe? Never seen more arrogant beggar.
Most people on here can’t see past their hurt egos. How easily are you triggered by a desperate speech from the president of a nation that has been slowly dying for four years?
Yes, the war in Ukraine has caused a lot of hardship for everyone, but first and foremost, for the people of Ukraine. Imagine living through that? It’s a reminder of how lucky some are not to be born in Ukraine or other war-torn countries.
Just think about that. I hope you’re safe.
I’m slightly confused… did his close ally(I think chief of staff) not embezzle large sums of money? We are happy to help but I feel no one’s talking about some of the money going there and being used for other things because of how corruption is bad there. To come on stage and “Slam” those helping you puts a bad taste in my mouth.
If Zelensky would be an American, he would be center-left Independent. That’s how one should be.
