Ich bin jetzt seit drei Monaten hier und weiß immer noch nicht so sehr, wie diese Dinge funktionieren. Fragt mich dieser Brief, ob ich "wollen" meine Krankenversicherung von meinen Steuern statt von meinem Bankkonto abziehen zu lassen? Und ist das obligatorisch oder optional? Hat es irgendeinen Nutzen? weil ich diese Nummer noch nicht habe und es mir nichts ausmacht, wenn sie weiterhin monatlich von meinem Bankkonto abbuchen.
Außerdem: Woher bekomme ich diese Steueridentifikationsnummer, nach der sie gefragt haben, weil ich keinen Brief erhalten habe, in dem sie enthalten ist, und ich bin auch nicht sicher, was die anderen Nummern sind, die sie erwähnt haben? Ich habe nur einen Brief von mir erhalten "Versicherungsnummer". Wenn mir jemand kurz sagen kann, um welche Nummer es sich handelt und wo man sie bekommt, wäre ich sehr dankbar. Vielen Dank.
Bearbeiten: Ich mache derzeit einen MSc-Abschluss und bin arbeitslos. Ich habe hier ein Studentenvisum.

You can deduct the part of the health insurance that you pay yourself. You report this in your Steuererklärung, but for automatic reporting the Finanzamt needs the data directly from the health insurance. For that, they need your tax ID. Since you didn’t provide it before Dec 31, they won’t transmit the data for that year. You can usually request it later or just enter the amounts yourself using the statement from the insurance. Once you have the tax ID, send it to them so it works automatically in the future.
Are you working as a freelancer or so? Then you should have a tax number. What TK offers you is to let the tax office automatically know how much you paid to make it easier for declaring taxes (which seems to be mandatory since fall 2025), but that has nothing to do with when and how you pay for your health insurance.
Your tax ID number should be on your payslips. It will also be on any correspondence you’ve received from the Finanzamt.
You should have received a letter after your city registration which has your Tax Identification Number on it.
