It’s not difficult to see why Carney’s speech was impactful, telling a taboo truth like the ‚international rules based order is dead (and was always at best a convenient fraud)‘ to the Davos crowd is bound to turn a few heads. Even if some of us had absorbed that truth a long time ago, it’s still quite novel to hear someone like Carney say it.

Still a nice West Wing speech is much less relevant to the present condition of the world Carney is describing, saying the liberal order is dead is fine (I’m sure some in the room needed to hear it) but his only solution is to somehow preserve Canada as an island of classical (neo)liberalism. The capital of the United States is still firmly in charge of defining what the rules of neoliberalism are, so that solution is not going to work for like a million reasons.
