FTA, ““Abacus’s latest numbers show that 22 per cent of the Conservative base and 27 per cent of current Tory voters have a positive impression of Trump, compared to 18 per cent of accessible voters.”

    2. If they keep doing what they’ve been doing, they’re going to keep getting what they’ve got. The strategies that were effective against Trudeau are not going to work the same with Carney, they’re different leaders with different strengths and weaknesses.

Circumstances have changed too. When the Tories were polling high we did not have a deranged dementia patient running our largest trading partner. Thankfully most Canadians recognize that bitching about „woke“ is a luxury issue and we have more pressing problems as a country.

PCs and more-so their leadership candidates have had this trouble for a while.

To get elected leader they have to pander to a smaller but very vocal and powerful part of the party.

That can get them elected leader but the same stuff does not wash on a national level and hurts them badly when tying to get power.

      >The average age of the party’s base is 47.6, while that of current Conservative voters is 46.4, compared to 49.8 for those who do not support the Conservatives.

      >Fifty-seven per cent of the base and 59 per cent of current voters are male, while only 45 per cent of Canadians who do not back the Tories are men.

Weird how the Poilievre fan club really loves to spit on the idea that Liberals ‚only win because of Boomers‘, but does backflips to avoid mentioning the huge vote split along gender lines.

Almost like they’ve decided they can scapegoat older folks and get away with it.

Trump is single handedly destroying decade long conservative strategy and messaging by [simply being the messenger](https://abacusdata.ca/canadians-split-on-maduros-removal-but-reactions-hinge-on-views-of-trump/) of them in Canada. What it means is that the MAGA Right rhetoric is unable to penetrate a large swath of the educated canadian electorate who see through the charade. This is why Pierre keeps dipping in polling as well, despite doing hardly anything controversial of late.

    6. If they rebranded into classic ‘cradle to grave’ Tories they could have done something, but not against an actual red Tory like Carney. The guy repackaged neoliberalism at Davos and suddenly he’s the second coming of Winston Churchill, while PP has fallen out of all political relevance.

Well a growing portion of their base are MAGA wannabe conspiracy theorizing morons. Couple that with the fact we essentially have an old school Progressive Conservative PM. That would make it difficult to find a direction forward.
