Am 21. hat das Bezirksgericht Nara (Richter Shinichi Tanaka Vorsitzender ) verkündete ein Urteil gegen Tetsuya Yamagami (45), der wegen Mordes und anderer Verbrechen angeklagt wurde, weil er angeblich den ehemaligen Premierminister Shinzo Abe mit einer selbstgebauten Waffe getötet hatte, als er eine Wahlkampfrede für die Wahl zum Abgeordnetenhaus 2022 in Nara City hielt. Die Staatsanwaltschaft hatte eine lebenslange Haftstrafe beantragt.
Der Angeklagte hat den Mord eingestanden und die Härte des Urteils war der größte Streitpunkt. Die Verteidigung argumentierte, dass die unglückliche Erziehung des Angeklagten damit zusammenhängt die Familienföderation für Weltfrieden und Vereinigung (ehemals Vereinigungskirche) konstituiert "religiöser Missbrauch," und dass die Höchststrafe auf 20 Jahre Gefängnis begrenzt werden sollte. Sie argumentierten auch, dass die selbstgemachte Waffe, die der Angeklagte hergestellt hatte, nicht unter diese Kategorie falle "Handfeuerwaffe usw." nach dem Gesetz zur Kontrolle von Schwertern und Schusswaffen.
In ihrem Schlussplädoyer im Dezember letzten Jahres verurteilte die Staatsanwaltschaft das Verbrechen als "ein äußerst schweres Verbrechen ohne Beispiel in der Nachkriegsgeschichte Japans," mit der Begründung, dass die Erziehung des Angeklagten nur einen begrenzten Einfluss auf seine Entscheidung zur Begehung der Straftat gehabt habe, und erklärte: "Der Rückgriff auf gewalttätige Mittel, um einer bestimmten Gruppe Schaden zuzufügen, ist in einem rechtsstaatlichen Land absolut inakzeptabel und die strafrechtliche Verantwortlichkeit sollte nicht verringert werden."
Unterdessen betonte die Verteidigung in ihrem Schlussplädoyer, dass sich der Angeklagte schuldig fühlte "intensives Gefühl der Krise und Verzweiflung" nachdem er sich eine Videobotschaft angesehen hatte, die Abe an mit der Sekte verbundene Organisationen geschickt hatte, und argumentierte dies "Dieses Verbrechen wurde aus der Verzweiflung eines Menschen begangen, der seine Zukunft verloren hatte."
Während des Prozesses, der im Oktober letzten Jahres begann und etwa drei Monate dauerte, traten die Mutter und die Schwester des Angeklagten als Zeugen der Verteidigung auf. Bei der fünfmaligen Befragung des Angeklagten sagte der Angeklagte: "Ich dachte, dass Rache (an der Sekte) der Sinn meines Lebens sei," und das war es, was Abe ins Visier nahm "ein Fehler."

I’m confused, non Japanese person here but aren’t prisons for rehabiliation? Why are they housing him in a jail for life instead of however long they need to rehabilitate him?

Everyone from the PM to the public to the Kokkai agreed this guy had the correct issue at heart even if the way he brought it to the public’s attention was wrong. It’s highly likely and most probable that without his extreme action, none of this would have happened. He ought to be pardoned or have his sentence commuted after several years.
I feel very sorry for this man. His punishment is unjustifiably harsh. Meanwhile, the hypocritical monsters of Unification Church are continuing their activities in other countries.
For example, leaders of the Unification Church in Russia strongly recommend making monthly donations equalling 30% of one’s income, rather than 10%.
Damn! If killing an official would help to shut down the Unification Church in Russia, I would consider doing it.
I don’t really understand some comments crying over the harsh sentence this guy just got. Didn’t he kill a man? Or I missed something?
It’s crazy how his mother would give away the money meant for her children’s upbringing and education to a fkin cult.
In the past the French had the guillotine for people of high status to be killed if corrupt. This was just another form of it in modern times which is illegal to do. The reason America have the rights to bear arms is due to politics. If they become corrupt and decide to govern in a way that people have no freedom or whatever, they are able to fight back instead of getting massacred, arrested, and controlled like pawns. In other countries it doesn’t exist but there are some people out there who put matters into their own hands to get rid of the corrupt such as him and Luigi who are both being set as an example to us commoners to not dare do such a thing or else this will happen to you too.
