      He forgets these are democracies that answer to voters, and the voters are pissed. Europe isnt a one man dictatorship like the US.

      The issue with Trump is, he’s never happy with any compromise. If a deal involves both sides being happy, then he sees that as a loss. You can’t negotiate with him. The status quo is both sides being happy. He wants to be the winner and someone else the looser.

      The perception of this conflict is wildly different in Europe vs the US.

      US Media portrays this as a Trump negotiation tactic, designed to trigger discussions and create leverage, which will likely result in some concession to appease Trump, because „nobody will go to war over Greenland“.

      For Europe on the other hand, the position of Greenland is non-negotiable. Full stop.

      So, while the U.S. operates under the assumption that some sort of deal will be made, Europe is more or less gearing up for war. The initial response will be economic (EU Anti-Coercion Instrument, counter tariffs, and/or dumping US treasuries). But make no mistake, the statements from European leaders make it clear that there are serious worries that this could escalate further.

      If Trump does not walk back his ambitions, Europe sees no other option but to respond and defend itself.

      Essentially it went along the lines of we’ve seen how other indigenous peoples have been treated and we don’t want to be part of the USA.

      This is so bizarre. Nobody knows why he wants Greenland. You can’t corner Rubio and ask him what the State Department’s position is, because he has no clue. It’s all in Trump’s head and that means it’s one man’s mercurial hallucinations against the world.

      The United States cannot be this unhinged. Not us. This isn’t some ridiculous North Korean outburst. It’s the US President asking for things the nation cannot understand and the rest of the world is gobsmacked by.

      Too many Americans have this delusion of invincibility.  We are at a moment in our history where countries we used to call allies don’t have our back and our enemies are going to take full advantage of this. We are effectively on our own now and Trump is too fucking narcissistic to see this. You can’t threaten war and then think you are going to cause me out with a deal when you are tripling down on taking the country.
