    1. It’s Arabian Gulf because all neighbors are Arab states and by Iran side it’s (Ahwaz) who speaks Arabic also

South sea – Sumerian name for it. And by rights should be the true name as it predates all others

    3. This is just another example as how politicians have no idea as how Gulfs/Bays/Seas were named by sailors.

It was named „Persian Gulf“ as it was an access to Persia by sea. If you want to reach Arabia by sea, you can reach there by „Arabian Sea“.

Just same as it is „Gulf of Mexico“ because sailors used that to reach Mexico, as you can reach America by just crossing „Atlantic Ocean“. It still would had made little sense if „Atlantic Ocean“ was renamed „American Ocean“.

What about the Indian Ocean? Isn’t India the only country named after an ocean? Is there any real ambiguity or debate about that name? Like, could it have been called the Chinese Ocean or African Ocean instead?

I think the Arabs have to choose — they cannot have BOTH the Gulf and the Arabian Sea. One body of water per customer!

„What do you call the Gulf?“

      Arabs: the Arabian Gulf

      Persians: the Persian Gulf

      Turkey for some reason:

    7. I prefer Strait of Hornuz as it’s way more important for trade, piracy and is the reason USA has 7 bases in the region
