Judging by the title it’s a pretty interesting article that makes you think. For example what does ’shadow war‘ actually look like? I might be wrong but maybe its foundation is not just supporting Ukraine but also the US dealing with its global competitors who happen to be Russia’s allies. The only thing that feels a bit scary is the price tag like the situation with Greenland, where US interests are wrapped in the branding of countering Russia and China.
I guess shadow war methods could also involve internal instability or supporting alternative voices within the Russian regions like Chechnya or in countries where politicians are very pro Russian. Georgia, Bulgaria, or Romania come to mind. Also maybe shadow warfare involves some kind of pressure on the circles around the political elite. It reminds me of how Hussein was eventually betrayed by someone from his own inner circle. In the digital age I bet this won’t happen without cyberattacks on financial systems using AI to find Russia’s weak spots and pushing economic or info-war buttons. The big question is NATO actually ready for this or will it just be more diplomatic talk as usual?
